Brooke Mueller Hospitalized for Possible Overdose

Brooke Mueller was hospitalized Friday morning for a possible drug overdose, according to TMZ. Mueller is the ex wife of Charlie Sheen and has been in and out of drug rehabilitation according to the gossip site, they have 3 year old twin sons together.

The couple married in 2008, but separated a year later. They were officially divorced last year.

A rep for Mueller insists drugs were not a factor in her hospitalization, claiming she passed out after making jewelry nonstop for the past several days.

“An assistant thought Brooke was non-responsive while she was napping and hastily called an ambulance,” Steve Honig, told TMZ. “As a precaution, Brooke was brought to a local hospital and discharged after an hour. She was diagnosed with exhaustion and dehydration and is now fine and resting at home.”

In a video interview with TMZ, Mueller said that she is fine now and has the papers to prove it. If the hospital thought she had OD’d, she said they would have put her in a 72-hour psych ward lock up.

“See? Look,” she said, clutching a wad of trinkets with mysteriously blackened fingertips. “Jewelry. Everywhere is jewelry.”

Mueller was released on bail last December after being charged with assaulting a woman in a Colorado nightclub and possessing four grams of cocaine. She’s currently on probation, so a run-in with drugs could mean jail time.

Mexican beauty queen killed in shootout

(CNN) – A Mexican beauty queen was killed during a weekend shootout in Sinaloa, a northern state known for drug-fueled violence, authorities said Monday.

Maria Susana Flores Gamez, 20, was the 2012 Woman of Sinaloa. She was killed Saturday in a gun battle between military troops and suspected criminals in the municipality of Mocorito. Two others were also killed.

Getty Images - Mexican beauty queen Maria Susana Flores Gamez, 20, was killed during a weekend shootout in the state of Sinaloa

Sinaloa State Attorney General Marco Antonio Higuera said a rifle was found near the beauty queen’s body, but it was not clear whether she had fired it. It was also not clear who shot her.

“All we know is that it happened during a confrontation that the army had with criminals, and that she was with the group of criminals,” he told reporters, according to a transcript from his office.

Four people were detained, he said, and authorities seized various weapons, drugs and vehicles.

Flores Gamez was a student of communications. She was crowned Woman of Sinaloa in February, beating more than a dozen young woman for the tile.

In addition to the Woman of Sinaloa pageant, Flores Gamez had participated in the 2012 Our Sinaloa Beauty contest. Organizers of that pageant released a statement upon news of her death, offering condolences to the family, which received her body Monday.

“We are dismayed by the news — a beautiful young person, happy, and with a big future ahead of her, ” the pageant organizers said. “Rest in peace Susy.”

Cosplay: Act To Be The One In Reality

The beauty queen is not the first in Mexico to make headlines for something other than her good looks.

In 2008, Laura Zuniga, who was then the reigning Our Sinaloa Beauty, was taken into custody along with seven men.

They had been traveling in two vehicles that contained AR-15 assault rifles, 38 specials, 9mm handguns, cartridges and $50,000 in cash, Luis Carlos Najera Gutierrez de Velazco, secretary of public security for the state of Jalisco, said then.

She was subsequently released.

More than 47,500 people have died across Mexico in drug-related violence since December 2006, when President Felipe Calderon took office and announced plans to deploy federal troops to help the government’s fight against organized crime.

According to Mexico’s National Human Rights Commission, more than 5,300 people have disappeared throughout the country in that same time, and the bodies of 9,000 dead have not been identified.

Tamera Mowry is expecting her first baby – a boy

(Courtesy of Christian Science Monitor) Tamera Mowry is expecting her first baby – a boy – any day now. It’s great to hear a celebrity mom talk like a normal mom on the street: She says she’s very ready to have the pregnancy over, done, finished, and baby home.

Tamera Mowry, right, and her twin sister Tia Mowry Hardrict (who will attend the birth of Tamera's baby boy as labor and delivery coach) seen here at a press event in Beverly Hills, Calif., in July. Jordan Strauss/AP

This is usually time for the celeb mommies-to-be to wax poetic about just how much they have loved being pregnant, how those nine months of creating new life was about the most magical experience they could imagine. Maybe they’ve already started working on their new maternity clothing line.

So, when I read that actually, Ms. Mowry feels like she has been pregnant forever, I took notice.

Really? Because that sounds down right … normal.

I quickly looked up the blog the “Sister, Sister” actress writes for “People.” Sure enough, Mowry acknowledges that in these last days leading up to her due date (tomorrow), she has had enough. She has been Googling old wives tales about how to induce labor naturally.

Not that she’s going to try all of those methods, or even expects them to work.

But it’s better than focusing on the sleepless nights, trips to the bathroom, problems with spicy food, and all of those first-time parent-to-be concerns, such as “Am I going to totally mess up this mom thing?”

“At this point you can either laugh or cry,” she writes.

I feel that way now, and I’m just starting my third trimester.

BARBAR Hair tools

Mowry, for one, says she has chosen to laugh. Which would raise her to the top of my favorite-celeb-mom list, if I kept one.

Folli FollieThis is Mowry’s first pregnancy. She and FOX News correspondent husband Adam Housley are expecting a boy, and her twin sister Tia Mowry is planning to be Tamera’s labor and delivery coach.

(Style Network viewers might remember watching Tia in the lead-up to the birth of her baby boy last year; the reality show “Tia & Tamera” followed Tia’s pregnancy and Tamera’s wedding planning.)

Already, Tamera Mowry says, she is learning some of the major lessons of parenting: patience, and the acceptance that really, you have very little control.

Michigan $1 Million Lotto Winner Who Was Charged With Welfare Fraud Found Dead

Published by EOTM News Editor on September 30th, 2012 - in Breaking News, Trending, World News, Yahoo trends

(YAHOO! News) A woman who admitted to receiving food stamps after winning $1 million on a Michigan state lotto game show was found dead today.

The circumstances surrounding Amanda Clayton’s death were not immediately released by police, but ABC News’ Detroit affiliate WXYZ-TV reported that sources within the police department said they suspect the woman died of an overdose.

An autopsy is pending on Clayton’s body, which was found at a home in Ecorse, Mich., police said.

Clayton, who became a millionaire after her big win last September, caused outrage earlier this year when it was revealed she was continuing to get $200 in monthly food aid from the state.

According to the attorney general’s office, Clayton failed to report her winnings and employment while receiving $5,475 in food and medical assistance.

“It’s simply common sense that million dollar lottery winners forfeit their right to public assistance,” Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette said in a statement. “We will continue to work with local, state and federal authorities to uphold state laws intended to ensure wise stewardship of taxpayer dollars.”

Michigan public assistance programs require participants to report income and employment.

She pleaded no contest to welfare fraud and was sentenced to probation in July.

Authorities release names of final victims killed

in Colorado theater rampage

By Associated Press

AURORA, Colo. — Ashley Moser drifted in and out of consciousness in the ICU, bullets lodged in her throat and a gunshot wound to her abdomen. In her waking moments, she called for her 6-year-old daughter Veronica.

Nobody had the heart to tell the 25-year-old mother that Veronica was already dead, the youngest victim killed at a Colorado movie theater in one of the worst mass shootings in U.S. history.

“All she’s asking about, of course, is her daughter,” said Ashley Moser’s aunt Annie Dalton. “She was a vibrant 6-year-old. She was excited, she’d just learned how to swim. She was a great little girl, excited about life — she should be at 6 years old.”The young girl was among the 12 people killed when a gunman barged into a crowded Colorado theater, set off gas canisters and opened fire as spectators dove for cover. Dozens of others were injured, including the 25-year-old Ashley Moser and 10 others in critical condition as of Friday night.Colorado authorities on Saturday released the names of those killed, eight men, three women and Veronica Moser-Sullivan. The oldest victim was 51-year-old Gordon Cowden. All died of gunshot wounds, according to the release by the Arapahoe County coroner’s office. One of the 12, Matthew McQuinn, has been tentatively identified and is awaiting final identification, though his family’s attorney confirmed to The Associated Press that McQuinn was among those killed.

Rob Scott of Dayton, Ohio, said McQuinn died after diving in front of his girlfriend and her older brother to shield them from the gunfire. Scott’s account could not be immediately verified.

For Alex Sullivan, it was to be a weekend of fun: He planned to ring in his 27th birthday with friends at the special midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” and then celebrate his first wedding anniversary on Sunday.

Late Friday, Sullivan’s family confirmed that police told them he was among those killed.

“He was a very, very good young man,” said Sullivan’s uncle, Joe Loewenguth. “He always had a smile, always made you laugh. He had a little bit of comic in him. Witty, smart. He was loving, had a big heart.”

Micayla Medek, 23, was also among the dead, her father’s cousin, Anita Busch, told the Associated Press.

Busch said the news, while heartbreaking, was a relief for the family after an agonizing day of waiting for news.

“I hope this evil act … doesn’t shake people’s faith in God,” she said.

On Saturday morning, parents of John Larimer released a statement that Navy officials notified them about midnight that their 27-year-old son was one of the 12 killed.

The family said that Larimer’s brother is working with the Navy to take his body home to Crystal Lake, Ill. He was with a unit that belongs to U.S. Fleet Cyber Command/U.S. Tenth Fleet at Buckley Air Force.

An Air Force reservist who worked at Buckley also was among the victims killed. Sgt. Jesse Childress, 29, was a cyber-systems operator, the Air Force said in a statement. Another reservist was treated and released after also being wounded in the shootings.

A blogger and aspiring sports reporter who recently wrote of surviving a Toronto shooting was killed, the woman’s brother said.

The death of Jessica Ghawi, who was also known as Jessica Redfield, was a “complete and utter shock,” said her brother, Jordan Ghawi.

He has been using his blog and Twitter account to update what he knew about his sister’s condition. He also appeared on the NBC “Today” show.

Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates said Friday evening that 10 victims died at the theater and two others later died from their injuries.

Jordan Ghawi said on his website that a man who was with his sister at the theater described the chaos, saying he and Jessica Ghawi dropped to take cover when the gunman first started shooting. Jessica Ghawi was shot in the leg, her brother wrote, describing details relayed to him by a man identified on the blog only as a mutual friend named Brent.

The man was then shot, but he continued attending to Jessica Ghawi’s wound before he realized she had stopped screaming, Jordan Ghawi stated. The man said Jessica Ghawi had been shot in the head.

Jessica Ghawi, 24, moved to Denver from Texas about a year ago and friends and colleagues described her as outgoing, smart and witty.

Ghawi blogged at length about surviving the Eaton Centre mall shooting in Toronto that killed two people and sent several others to the hospital.

Jessica Ghawi wrote of the Toronto shooting: “I was shown how fragile life was on Saturday. I saw the terror on bystanders’ faces. I saw the victims of a senseless crime. I saw lives change. I was reminded that we don’t know when or where our time on Earth will end. When or where we will breathe our last breath.”

The other victims were Alexander J. Boik, Jonathan T. Blunk, Rebecca Ann Wingo and Alexander C. Teves, according to the coroner’s office.

All-Star Game 2012: How Did National League Trounce American League?

By JIM LITKE 07/11/12 04:59 AM ET AP

(AP) — One league has more money to throw around, better hitters, better pitchers, better teams and a nearly decade-long streak of dominance in interleague play.

The other just won the All-Star game for the third year in a row. So much for inferiority complexes.

“You’ve got to tip your hat to the National League again,” American League manager Ron Washington said.

Credit: AP - National League's Melky Cabrera of the San Francisco Giants shows off his MVP trophy after the MLB All-Star game against the American League, Tuesday, July 10, 2012, in Kansas City, Mo.

He’s just hoping Tuesday night’s 8-0 beating wasn’t another omen. The NL wins in the 2010 and 2011 Midsummer Classics locked up home-field advantage in the World Series for the Giants and Cardinals. Both went on to beat Washington’s Texas Rangers in the fall.

“They came out, swung the bats, and once they got the lead, started bringing those arms in …” Washington added glumly, “and they got the job done.”

With hindsight it’s a lot easier to argue why one team of millionaires appeared more motivated than the other in an exhibition game only a few players on either side were wild about attending.

The four San Francisco starters who played important roles in helping the NL crack the game open early arrived in Kansas City a few days ago trailed by echoes their fans had stuffed the ballot box – which they apparently had. If that bothered Pablo Sandoval or Melky Cabrera, neither let on. Giants catcher Buster Posey arrived as the NL’s all-time leading vote-getter and tried not to act embarrassed. Right-hander Matt Cain, whose 10 first-half wins included a perfect game and made him a plenty legitimate choice to start, had to dodge questions about why NL manager Tony La Russa chose him over the Mets’ R.A. Dickey.

And then there was Milwaukee’s Ryan Braun. The NL’s reigning MVP is on something resembling a “vindication tour.” Coming off a career year in 2011, the 28-year-old Braun spent much of the offseason defending himself – first after testing positive for a banned substance and then, after his suspension was overturned, against the charge that he beat the rap on a technicality. Asked ahead of the game whether his explosive first-half performance was proof that performance-enhancers played no part in his climb, Braun coolly answered yes. Then he went out and played like an All-Star yet again. He doubled, tripled and turned in a pair of nifty defensive plays, including one against former teammate Prince Fielder.

While Cain was stifling an AL lineup that resembled the first round of a fantasy draft, Braun and his Giants teammates collected five runs off AL starter Justin Verlander in the first, then put the game effectively out of reach in the fourth – with some assistance from Cardinals Rafael Furcal and Matt Holliday – by pounding Matt Harrison for another three runs.

Afterward, Washington still seemed surprised by Verlander’s decision to begin the game throwing heat. The manager couldn’t find too many nice things to say about the strategy, so he said almost nothing at all.

“Well, it’s very disappointing, because we’re competitors and we want to win,” Washington said.

The Tigers’ ace had an explanation ready. Verlander said he usually doesn’t register triple digits on the radar gun until well into a game, but decided to try early in this one to give the fans a show.

“Obviously, you don’t want to go out like that, but I had fun,” Verlander said. “That’s why I don’t try to throw 100 (mph) in the first inning, but this is for the fans. It doesn’t usually work out too well for me.

“I know this game means something and you don’t want to give up runs, but we’re here for the fans,” he repeated a moment later. “I know the fans don’t want to see me throw 90 and try to hit the corners.”

One glance at the steadily declining TV ratings makes you wonder how much the fans really want to see. Last year’s game in Phoenix was the lowest-rated ever, continuing a trend Commissioner Bud Selig hoped to avert by putting home-field advantage in the World Series at stake.

Then again, this one had more appeal than a few recent games. Familiar faces like Derek Jeter and Chipper Jones, at 40 playing in his eighth and final All-Star game, mingled with the fresh ones belonging to the next generation of stars, kids like Bryce Harper and Mike Trout. Fox showcased new hire Erin Andrews and trotted out a promotional campaign reminding us of the game’s old-time virtues: “When we see the boys of summer actually be boys.”

That may have been true about a few too many of the guys on the American League bench, at least for this one night. La Russa took some heat a day earlier – including in this space – for his decision to start Cain over fan favorite Dickey, a 37-year-old journeyman whose first All-Star appearance came after a long struggle to master the knuckleball. Apparently, that nasty little competitive streak grew wide enough to make a big difference.

John Edwards has definitely been taking lessons straight out of Bill Clinton’s playbook.

“I did an awful, awful lot that was wrong,” John Edwards said. “I am responsible. I don’t have to go any further than the mirror. It’s me and me alone.”

The one time President hopeful was found not guilty of using campaign funds to hide his extramarital affair, and a mistrial was declared on five other counts.

Robert Pattinson leaves vampires behind in ‘Cosmopolis’

CANNES, France (AP) — Robert Pattinson has gone from playing a vampire to depicting another kind of bloodsucker — a billionaire financier whose world crumbles in the course of a nightmarish cross-town drive in “Cosmopolis.”

Getty Images

The “Twilight” heartthrob stars in David Cronenberg’s Cannes Film Festival entry as sleek, self-centered moneyman Eric Packer, who sees his fortune and sense of self evaporate during an eventful day in his stretch limo.

Pattinson’s famously handsome face is on-screen in every scene, but “Twilight”’s young fans may be surprised and confused by a film that explores Cronenberg’s fascination with physical, social and psychic violence.

The 26-year-old actor is not worried.

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart Buzz

“If some 12-year-olds went to go and see that, or got the video for their birthday — sitting down and watching that, it’s incredible,” the actor said during an interview on a Cannes hotel rooftop. “I would love that to happen if I was a kid.”

It’s a bit of amiable mischief-making from an actor who wants to be known as more than doe-eyed vampire Edward Cullen, in love with human Bella Swan in the “Twilight” saga.

Gear Up for Twilight!

He said he craves the cinematic understatement that blockbusters don’t always provide.

“I remember when I was in the first ‘Twilight’ movie, I really wanted to not have Edward touch Bella, apart from when he saves her life and when they kiss the first time,” said Pattinson, lightly rumpled but friendly and poised after a long day of press interviews. “I was thinking of the (Ang Lee) movie ‘Lust, Caution,’ and thinking there should be this tension there the whole time — just standing near someone there’s electricity.

“But sometimes it just makes things too hard. You kind of forget that most people want to go to the cinema just to watch a movie rather than watch something really weird.”

“Weird” is par for the course with Cronenberg, and Pattinson gets plenty of scope to stretch himself in “Cosmopolis,” playing a hollow-eyed Master of the Universe forced to confront his mortality.

Events, emotion and violence keep intruding on the hermetically sealed universe of his limo as he tries, futilely, to cross a crisis-wracked Manhattan in search of a haircut.

Packer crosses paths with characters including his aloof wife (Sarah Gadon), his arty lover (Juliette Binoche), a pie-throwing protester (Mathieu Amalric) and a murderously angry former employee (Paul Giamatti).

Packer is not, to put it mildly, a likable character. Some have seen him as an avatar of Wall Street excess, but Pattinson says he watched interviews with serial killers Jeffrey Dahmer and Ted Bundy, rather than real-life financiers, to help him create the character’s voice.

“He’s like an alien,” Pattinson said of the character.

“He’s not part of his body. Everything is an abstraction. The world’s an abstraction. Everything is.”

The film has been widely described as a dystopian reflection of the present crisis of capitalism — but Pattinson sees it in a more cheerful light, as Packer learns to face his humanity.

“I always thought it’s kind of a happy story, up until the right at the very end,” he said.

“He’s suddenly starting to feel and he becomes more physical as the day goes on, more alive. He feels like he’s part of the world.”

Packer is cut off from other humans by wealth and temperament, cocooned in his car and protected by vigilant bodyguards. Pattinson has, to an extent, been cut off by fame. He and his girlfriend and “Twilight” co-star Kristen Stewart are magnets for paparazzi and fans.

Pattinson said the experience had given him insight into some aspects of Packer’s situation.

“Some of the stuff with the bodyguard, because when I’m doing press and stuff and when I’m working I have a bodyguard who I get really close with,” he said. “There’s a very specific relationship and that was one of the things I kind of got.”

Pattinson’s “Twilight” fame has trailed with him around Cannes, but Cronenberg said it had no bearing on his decision to cast the actor.

“You must ignore the baggage,” the director said.

“It is very easy to say that this character, Eric Packer, is vampire or a werewolf of Wall Street, But really that’s rather superficial. He’s a real character and a real person in the movie.

“This is a real person, with a history and a past. And the history and the past is not ‘Twilight.’ It’s ‘Cosmopolis.’”

Pattinson came to Cannes with Stewart, who appears in Jack Kerouac adaptation “On the Road.”

“She found out a lot earlier than I did that it (“On the Road”) was in competition,” Pattinson said — leaving him seething.

He’s happy now, though, and still can’t believe the reaction to the strange and unsettling “Cosmopolis.”

“When there’s people screaming outside, I’m like, ‘This is incredible,’” he said. “That people are screaming for this, the most bizarre movie — it’s amazing.

“I wasn’t expecting anyone to get it. Even last night (at the premiere), I was expecting everyone to walk out.”

Hip Hop Artist AZitiZ Launches the South Africa Conscious Music Movement Tour‏

International hip hop artist AZitiZ can inspire and pull crowds by the thousands. Her family and friends know her as Lalita Garrett, the woman who comes home from the studio, chills with her bff’s and beep bops to Lauryn Hill. Her fans know her as the artist that is constructing a new narrative of gender relationships that values communication, respect, thoughtfulness, and spirituality along with positive affirmations of shared black identity which transcends gender inequalities. Creating a social balance for the lovers of music in all genres.

Touring around the world to such places as Poland, Germany, and Australia, AZitiZ is looking forward to getting back to her roots for the South Africa Conscious Music Movement tour launching April of 2012.

“I believe that all forms of expressive culture eventually have a reconnection point in Africa. If Hip Hop music intends to continue its upward movement in the ground-breaking, world-changing ways that they have to date; they also must find their points of reconnection, which is Africa,” a spokesperson for AZitiz said in a recent interview.

According to the Hip Hop Archive, the origin of hip-hop in South Africa cannot be fully appreciated without considering the political history of the country. Influenced by groups like Public Enemy, hip-hop began in the late 1980′s as an expression of rebellion against the practices of the Apartheid regime.

Fast forward to 2011 and make your way to Dakar, the capital city of Senegal on the western edge of Africa. Journalists are banned from saying or writing what they want, hip-hop artists have stepped up to speak for those who can’t. Moussa Lo, a.k.a. Waterflow, is one of Senegal’s most famous hip-hop artists. He said he became a hip-hop singer not for success or his own glory, but to be “the voice of the voiceless.” “Hip-hop in Africa needs to grow,” Waterflow told ABC News, “because we are the journalists for the people.”

The Explore South Africa tour will be the voice of the voiceless as well and will also be instrumental in promoting the ideals of socio-economic and racial parity.

This new tour, is an initiative driven by AZitiZ aka Lalita Garret from the USA and Mduduzi Mvemve ”DjDuce” from RSA. This initiative aims to assist conscious hip hop artists, fans and brands to enter into the South African market with the hopes networking, sharing their love for the genre as well as learning the in and outs of the music business via our Global Hip Hop Industry Panel of Experts.

The ESAT is a positive life style session that utilizes popular culture, educating artist on all aspects of the music business as well as utilizing music and spoken word for info-taining and entertaining the audience. Applying technology as a tool to bridge both personal and intellectual spaces. The Explore South Africa Tour also focuses on building bridges and connecting with the youth of South Africa in a way that will impact the region and leave it with a better sense of hope.

The ESAT tour fully promotes ideals like the Hip Hop Archives and appreciates the scope of their movement in Africa and others like it.
