What does One Direction, Gladys Knight and Ben Afflect have in common — you ask ?

Popular boy band, One Direction proved to be not so popular with their management after losing a ‘substantial amount of money’ at a Las Vegas casino. The ‘Kiss You’ hitmakers, consisting of Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles, received a ‘dressing down’ from management for their irresponsible behavior.

One Direction - Photo credit: VIrgin Records

Niall took time out to explain to We Love Pop magazine, “Like most of the stupid things we do, it seemed like it was a good idea at the time. We just thought, ‘We’re 18, this is the first time we’ve been able to spend a bit of money in weeks because we’ve been on the road.” He went on to say that he won £100, which seemed reasonable, and then he stopped. When it came to his fellow band members Niall was tight-lipped and all he would offer was, “No comment”. He continued to say that things ‘got a bit ugly’ and a large amount of money was lost.

Thankfully the boys, who are now all 18 and old enough to legally gamble, all seem to have learned a valuable lesson and are unlikely to be dropping sizable amounts at casinos anytime soon.  However some celebrities learn the hard way.

Take Gladys Knight, known as the “Empress of Soul” and former queen of The Pips, who once had a $40 000-a-night baccarat addiction. Knight was in the grips of this addiction for over 10 years, but finally managed to find help and kick the habit after losing $45,000 in one night!

But some stars never seem to learn. It is alleged that at some stage long time gambler, Ben Affleck, owed $400,000 to a movie mogul, Ron Meyer and that he even ‘hosted’ his very own underground poker game in Beverley Hills at the well-known high-end cigar club, the Grand Havana Room, although his publicist firmly denies it. However, it isn’t only celebrities who make the headlines when it comes to casinos.

Gift for SingerJust last month a South African casino confiscated a banner gambler’s winnings after he hit the jackpot, and then proceeded to charge him with trespassing. The man in question had voluntarily banned himself from all casinos in South Africa in 2012, but decided not to keep his resolution and continued to gamble. He was promptly arrested and had to pay an admission of guilt fine at a nearby police station. Clearly the temptation was too much for this man who had withdrawn from gambling but then decided to visit a South African casino!

The moral of the story? If you can’t control your gambling, don’t gamble. If you still decide to gamble – don’t get caught.

Celebrity Pic of the Day: Chris Brown Tattoo

Chris Brown just recently got new tattoo of a fighter jet in same spot as Rihanna’s tribute tat to grandmother.

Chris Brown -- Instagram

Recently the pop star took to Twitter to defend neck tat that resembles Rihanna. ‘I’m an artists and this is art,’ singer proclaims. “It’s a tribute to “Dia de los Muertos.”

“Dia de los Muertos” or “The Day of the Dead,” according to azcentral.com, is a Mexican tradition that dates back thousands of years. When Spanish Conquistadors landed in the country, they learned that natives celebrated the passing of loved ones through dance while wearing wooden skull masks called calacas.

Brown’s most recent tattoo is a sugar skull (associated with the Mexican celebration of the Day of the Dead) and a M.A.C cosmetics design he saw.

It is not Rihanna or an abused woman as erroneously reported. It is peeling right now,” Brown’s rep explained.

“The dude is serious about his art,” Koskela, who drew the face Aug. 30, says of his repeat client. “When something inspires him, he wants it somewhere on his body, but he never said why he wanted to get that particular piece.”

“When I did see the picture [of Brown in Vegas] and his head was cocked to the side, it did look like it was rough around the edges,” the artist admitted, referring to the image that got tongues wagging. “People thought it was a beat-up face, but it takes two weeks to heal because the neck is constantly moving.”

Latest Music News | Rahn Anthoni

Top Story

By Carla B., Los Angeles EOTM! Online Music Critic

There is a difference between Rahn Anthoni and the rest of the R&B contemporaries. No, it has nothing to do with him singing gospel in the past or even immersing himself in the techno scene internationally or his philanthropy work. It especially has nothing to do with the untimely passing of his son, Aaron Hatcher, or his new affiliations with Human Rights Organizations across the country. Rather, this 30 something entertainer is aggressively passing his peers and setting the internet ablaze, because of the fearlessness in everything he does.

As he demonstrated on last year’s spectacular album “Man on a Mission,” Anthoni is not afraid to adopt music choices outside of the R&B realm.

Meet Rahn Anthoni –

In recent months, Rahn Anthoni’s career has taken a slight shift from gospel contemporary to more conventional soulful and pop ballads.

This multi-faceted recording artist, actor and philanthropist has without a doubt earned himself a spot in contemporary music history. Releasing multiple albums to date, selling thousands of albums worldwide.

In an industry known for a constantly revolving door of artists, Anthoni  has easily established himself with an enviable record of chart consistency, has toured successfully and  has collaborated with performers across every genre including Dottie Peoples, Tolga Katas, Stevie B, Musiq Soulchild, Shirley Murdock, Trinity and many more.

His music has graced the Stellar Awards as well as the BET Gospel Celebration and has been nominated for a South Florida Music Award, Crunk for Christ Radio Holy Hip Hop and Rhythm & Praise Awards amongst others. He was also most recently submitted for a NAACP Image Award.

The genius of Rahn Anthoni rests in his willingness to break from traditional formula and constantly push the envelope. He flips the method of the moment with undeniable swagger and bold hip-hop sensibility.

If you’ve ever seen him in concert then you already know, his stage performances are unforgettable. Part of the reason Anthoni never appears to break a sweat is because, well, he really isn’t. He’s a frustratingly restrained vocalist, tending towards the legato, dragging each syllable out until it melts into the next one.

As a songwriter, Anthoni revisits simple, but profound aspects of the human experience – love, desire, joy and pain that define classical art and drama. He applies his concept to rich, full vocals that exude his intended effect which draws from the spirit of his musical forefathers, Curtis Mayfield and Donnie Hathaway.

But no matter what Anthoni’s mood is on a album, the songs sound fantastic. The production never smothers the singer’s sumptuous vocals, which spill over into pockets of air that the listener didn’t know could be filled.

“Rahn Anthoni is a genius with a heart of gold…and we’ve seen only the tip of the iceberg. For all that he has already achieved in his career, it is going to be fun watching where he goes from here,” Carla B. of EOTM Media said in a recent interview.

Eight-time Grammy winner Lauryn Hill has pleaded guilty to willfully failing to file income tax returns with the IRS. Federal prosecutors contend she didn’t pay taxes on more than $1.5 million earned in 2005, 2006 and 2007 from recording and film royalties.

Hill declined to comment however, her attorney Nathan Hockman, said the star had been targeted by the federal government because of her celebrity status.

Earlier this month, Hill responded to the charges:

“Over-commercialization and its resulting restrictions and limitations can be very damaging and distorting to the inherent nature of the individual,” Hill wrote. “I did not deliberately abandon my fans, nor did I deliberately abandon any responsibilities, but I did however put my safety, health and freedom and the freedom, safety and health of my family first over all other material concerns! I also embraced my right to resist a system intentionally opposing my right to whole and integral survival.”

Phillip Phillips crowned “American Idol” season 11 winner

Phillip Phillips crowned American Idol winner, topping Jessica Sanchez after a reported 132 million votes were cast — “a new world record,” according to host Ryan Seacrest.

Phillips teared up while performing his winning song “Home,” while confetti rained down on the stage around him.

Phillips didn’t finish the song, but strolled off stage and into the arms of his family, who were waiting in the first few rows. As streamers fell and the band played on the stage behind him, Phillips hugged his family members, and later judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

The finale took place during a star-packed, two-hour event, featuring John Fogerty, Chaka Khan, Jennifer Holiday, Rihanna, Neil Diamond and a reunion of Steven Tyler’s Aerosmith.

Phillip Phillips Has ‘American Idol’ In The Bag, Experts Say

Published by EOTM News Editor on May 23rd, 2012 - in Breaking News, Entertainment News, Music, Music News, Reality TV

(MTV) Even if she hadn’t been saddled with what is possibly the worst “American Idol” finalist song in the show’s history, the chances of Jessica Sanchez beating Phillip Phillips seemed slim.

The guitar-strumming, foot-swiveling, five-o’clock-shadow-having Dave Matthews doppelgänger was many critics’ early pick to continue the recent trend of cute white boys who strum guitars winning the crown. So MTV News asked some of our favorite “Idol” experts to place their bets on who will be dusting confetti out of their hair when Ryan Seacrest reads the final results Wednesday night (May 23) and, well, it was (almost) unanimous.

Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images

“I think she came into the night with approximately zero percent chance of winning, and I don’t think that song changed that,” said “American Idol: The Untold Story” author Richard Rushfield when asked if Sanchez’s last-ditch chance to win was ruined by the treacly pop ballad “Change Nothing.” “I think she was doomed from the start. After the top 24 was unveiled, I tweeted a congratulation to Phillip Phillips for winning ‘American Idol’ season 11, and every week since, I’ve tweeted the same.”

Rushfield said this season gave him no reason to doubt that Phillips would continue the “cute white boy dynasty,” because, at this point, it would take something “monumental” to change that, and Sanchez wasn’t it. “If something happens five times, you can assume it will happen 20 times,” he said.

Longtime “Idol” blogger MJ Santilli sighed and checked the box marked “Phillip” as well, though she wasn’t enthused about doing it. “It’s just become predictable that there’s a certain sort of winner,” she said. “Maybe we need someone a little different. … If Jessica had come out and really killed all three of her songs, she might have had a chance to grab the casual viewers who turn in for the last few weeks, but she really had an uphill battle.”

The dissenting opinion came from TVLine.com “Idol” recapper Michael Slezak, who said he was pretty confident of a Sanchez victory. “Phil won the night [on Tuesday], but I think she has a slight edge on him for the season. I think he had a bit of a rocky road through his ‘Idol’ journey, and somewhere between the top-nine week and the top-four week, he wasn’t performing like an ‘Idol’ winner should.”

Even though Phillips came on strong the past few weeks — and Sanchez was almost booted before the judges saved her in week seven — Slezak said she pulled it back together and ended the season with some of her strongest performances. “There’s still a cosmic price to pay [for Phillip] for what happened midseason.”

Buy and download PC and Mac games

Former MTV News “Idol in 60 Seconds” star Jim Cantiello also predicted Phil would win way back in January, but he thinks show creator Simon Fuller’s song choice on Tuesday night’s show sealed the deal. “That set the tone, and to give Jessica a song that been covered so many times on ‘Idol’ [Whitney Houston's 'I Have Nothing'] seemed like a slap in the face,” he said. “And to give Phil a song only three people have sung before [Ben E. King's 'Stand by Me'] … it just set up Phil to do his thing.”

Cantiello said if Sanchez hadn’t gotten eliminated and saved, then there’s a part of him that thinks she might have a shot at an upset. “But [Phillip] was never even in the bottom, let alone getting voted off once.”
