US and South Africa Hip Hop Artists unite on the Explore South Africa Tour

“I became a hip-hop singer not for success or my own glory, but to be “The voice of the voiceless, Hip-hop in Africa needs to grow, we are the journalists for the people.” Hip hop Artist Moussa Lo, aka Waterflow

Has rap faded away from the lyrical concept of hip hop?

I can recall when themes of conscious rap ran rampant in hip hop music. Lyricists at their best, mixing their rhymes to topics on religion, aversion to violence, African American culture and advancement, the economy, or simple depictions of life in the projects/ghetto that reveal the struggle of ordinary people. Grandmaster Flash's "The Message" was an early and hugely influential political and conscious hip hop track, decrying the poverty, violence, and dead-end lives of the black youth of the time.

In 2011 most conscious hip hop artists have not attained the same level of commercial success as mainstream hip-hop, though there are some notable exceptions to this.

The Explore South Africa tour (ESAT) is a mass conscious music movement helping to not necessarily push out other forms of hip hop, but to allow conscious music artists their fare share in the mainstream marketplace.

Hip hop artists on the roster plan on bringing a message of hope, peace and harmony to the masses through the Explore South Africa tour (ESAT). “We can overcome the ever-growing trend towards negativity in Hip Hop and hold steadfast to positive beliefs and ideals while maintaining great success and influence,” a spokesperson for ESAT said.

Seeking: Distribution, Management, Collaborations, Label

Style: Rap, Hip Hop

The new wave West Coast Rapper brings geeked-up fire  to the streets of Compton. “It’s kinda real now..it’s got me shaking my head…the world’s gone crazy…they want control of our minds though, but I got something for em..they aint gettin mines though,” croons Ralphion on his hit single “Shaking My Head“…and can you blame him?! “Luckily, his skills and charisma are also intact. “Shaking My Head’” is an unadulterated exercise in pure flow with Ralphion scattering boasts and liquid west coast rap vowels over  an old school, alternately tinkling and snarling beat. A beat that even our grand parents can appreciate. It appears there is still hope for west coast rap and it’s name is Ralphion. Listen to “Shaking My Head” now.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

A devastating story in the hip hop community, aspiring artist, 27-year-old Gilani Taylor was critically injured in a car crash on the 101 freeway near Calabasas  a week ago today. Her 9-year-old daughter  Jayla Taylor died in the crash.

Gilani - Photo credit: Face book

Initial reports from the scene of the crash described the singer as crawling from the wreckage, her body fully aflame. “She’s rolling in pain, on fire, and her skin is falling off,” one witness said. “I was shocked at first. I thought it was a horror movie.’”

Gilani is a  R&B singer who had just independently released her single and video titled ”I know” when the tragic accident happened. Gilani Taylor has a husband and a 4 year old daughter.  She was on her way to a church meeting when the horrific accident took place.

The Family is asking all friends and fans that can and are willing, to go to the site www.jaylataylor.com and make a donation right on line. Every penny will go to help the family. You can also go to itunes and download “I know” by Gilani Taylor and the monies will also go to the family.

Her public Facebook page reads:

“Faced with the sudden dissolution of her singing group, Gilani found herself at a crossroads: pick up the pieces and try again or go at it alone. The Belizean/American singer opted for the latter and took matters into her own hands. The result: her debut album aptly titled “Take A Picture”. Recorded in just four days, the 11 song LP is comprised of a mixture of pop, rock and R&B tracks coupled with lyrics co-written by the artist. The title track encompasses Gilani’s current outlook on her music perfectly: after years of waiting for her opportunity, this Southern California native is ready to showcase her singing and dancing abilities to the fullest, no holding back- inviting all the skeptics to “take a picture” while she does it.”
