Roger Ebert, quite possibly the most prolific Film Critic of our time has died

By Carla B.– Follow on Twitter @EOTMPR - Facebook @EOTM.Media

It’s a sad day in the film industry, Roger Ebert, probably the most prolific movie critic alive has died. The Chicago Sun-Times confirmed the report.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist passed away on Thursday due to complications stemming from cancer, he was 70. Just two days ago Ebert revealed on his blog that the cancer that had robbed him of his voice, but not his determination to share his love of cinema, had returned. He warned that he would have to cut back on his reviewing output for the Chicago Sun-Times. He also insisted that he would not be taking a leave of absence, but a “leave of presence.”

Ebert had been battling serious health issues for the past several years. Diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2006, he lost portions of his jaw and the ability to speak, eat or drink, which required him to use a chin prosthesis and necessitated him to step down from his TV duties.

He leaves behind a legacy that includes countless book collections; a 2011 memoir, Life Itself; Ebertfest, a film festival in its 15th year that will take place at his alma mater, the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, April 17-21; and the relaunch of “Rogerebert.com the new Ebert Digital,” an entity run by his wife of 20 years, Chaz, which will house an archive of 10,000 of his reviews.

President Obama commented on Ebert’s passing:

”Roger was the movies,” President Obama said about Ebert in a statement. “When he didn’t like a film, he was honest; when he did, he was effusive – capturing the unique power of the movies to take us somewhere magical. Even amidst his own battles with cancer, Roger was as productive as he was resilient – continuing to share his passion and perspective with the world. The movies won’t be the same without Roger, and our thoughts and prayers are with Chaz and the rest of the Ebert family.”

Vilkin, in an interview conducted in county jail, told KGTV in San Diego that the killing was in self-defense after Upton menaced him with a gun during the dispute. Vilkin told reporters”

Vilkin said he owns vacant property next to Upton’s home. Upton’s brother, Michael Upton, told U-T San Diego that his brother and Vilkin previously argued about trees.

Police have not said whether Mr Upton, 56, had a gun on him at the time of the shooting.

‘I shot him; you know, I predicted him to fall immediately because this is a .44-caliber Magnum,’ Vilkin said.

‘He did not, he did two or three steps toward me and then I shot him in the head.’

Film scriptwriter Angel Terron to host screening of Indie Short ‘Reply or Delete’ in Atlanta

ATLANTA, Georgia – (EPR) While mainstream media has shown us that women make up only a tiny percentage of the leadership in the film community, I am heartened to find that we are tiny, but mighty. During Women’s History Month multifaceted author, scriptwriter, actress and producer Angel Terron will host a screening of the new independent film short, “Reply or Delete.”

Terron penned the drama which is based off her novel released in 2009. The story follows the fantastical story of married women tempted to have internet love affairs. Young women whose indiscretions are sure to ignite 100’s of years of controversy.

Porter Sanford Performing Arts in Atlanta will offer a special screening of Reply or Delete to be followed by a question-and-answer session with Terron so please be sure to stop by and bring a friend.

Angel Terron has many things to be proud of, in the last few years having successfully launched casting & production companies, “Angels Casting and Angel Terron Productions.” Terron has also been featured in the Rain Forest Film opposite Idris Elba and Boris Kodjoe in “The Gospel.” She has also starred in Ken Jackson’s film, “A Cigarette Moment.” You might even remember seeing the hardworking and dedicated Angel in Tyler Perry’s film, ‘A Diary of a Mad Black Woman.”

Having successfully produced and self-financed her own projects Terron knows the challenges that come with being an independent, especially for black cinema. Reply or Delete has been selected by PVIFF, BHRTC & PAN AFRICA Film Festivals receiving nominations for best short film.

Today, having completed the feature script Terron is in talks with several production companies to turn Reply or Delete into a Feature Film. The amazing woman is also working on a couple new books, “A.I.M – Angry Insecure Men,” dealing with abusive relationships and “No Doesn’t Mean On!  Which tackles date rape.

The unstoppable woman has also signed on to work with the high profile inaugural awards show; The EOTM’s, where she is part of the writing staff. Last week EOTM Media announced that Terron was nominated for Best Writing at the 2013 EOTM Awards show and will also present at what is being called, “Entrepreneurs Biggest Night.” The red carpet and awards show takes place in Los Angeles, California on August 4th.

If you are in Atlanta on March 28th  from 6pm till 11pm be sure to come out and support this awesome writer.

One thing you can be sure of is that you will without a doubt be hearing a lot more about this wonderful Triple threat. Sultry eyes and talented mind, no wonder so many offers are coming her way.
