Fashion’s Power Forward: Alaska Fashion Week
Designers old and new to dazzle at Alaska Fashion Week
Once the most marginal of fashion hot spots, Alaska has finally grown up to be a style force to be reckoned with, according to Alaska Fashion Week organizers.
Influencers will start up AFW with a taste of what’s to come with spring and summer collections and one thing you can be sure of…top fashion designers will bring classic elegance to the catwalks, while up-and-coming talent join the fun with their hip and trendy styles during the festivities.
Models will rip the runway with designs by Carlos De Moya, EMI, Jun Artajo, Jasmine Agape, Leontine, Nigel Who? and more. With buyers from all over the world in attendance, the Alaska Fashion Week has already been predicted to be a major success.
The four-day event blends emerging talent with veteran designers and is best known for its cutting-edge talent and avant garde trends.
What shoppers can take away from Alaska is the idea that the runway is a tool to present fanciful options, not to be used to dictate a specific look.

“This season is going to help the person out there who is trying to get dressed in the morning. You can wear anything, just do it with conviction and confidence,” said Dominick Liriano, founder and producer of Alaska Fashion Week. “I’m just trying to bring all these things together and make something that’s beautiful,” he added.

Rihanna to star in her own fashion reality show
(Reuters) – Chart-topping R&B star Rihanna is delving into the world of fashion, starring in a reality television show competition that will challenge designers to make outfits for a handful of celebrities, U.S. cable channel Style Network said on Wednesday.

“Styled to Rock,” set to premiere in the latter half of 2013, will feature 12 young designers handpicked by the Barbadian Grammy-winning singer.
The designers will be tasked with styling a celebrity guest on each episode, and the guest will help determine which designer moves on to the next round of the competition.
“Fashion has always played an integral part in my life and career. I am so excited to partner with Style Network and share my creative insight with these 12 designers and give them this opportunity to showcase their work,” Rihanna, 24, said in a statement.
The singer will also serve as an executive producer under her given name, Robyn Rihanna Fenty. Style Network has yet to announce which celebrities will guest host or the fashion experts who will serve as mentors to contestants.
The series will piggyback on a British show of the same name in which Rihanna appeared over the summer.
The “Diamonds” singer recently concluded a seven-date globe-trotting tour in support of her new album “Unapologetic,” which debuted atop the Billboard 200 album chart last week.
Style Network is a unit of Comcast Corp’s NBC Universal.

Swift isn’t a boy band, but she’s certainly got the appeal of one: the country crossover has a huge following, particularly among teens who have followed her since she was a teen herself, releasing her first album. But she’s also a critic’s darling: The Grammy-winner’s “Red” garnered plenty of acclaim when it was released last week.
Swift was omnipresent in the week of the album’s release, appearing on such shows as “Good Morning America” and “Katie.” She also joined with two untraditional partners — Papa John’s and Walgreens, which offered the album for sale. And she announced her upcoming tour.

Cindy Crawford Stops 10-Year-Old Daughter’s Modeling Career
Cindy Crawford has put her 10-year-old daughter’s budding fashion career on hold despite the girl’s recent success in modeling.
Kaia Gerber, the daughter of Crawford and Rande Gerber, posed last month in the first children’s modeling campaign for the Versace fashion house, which just opened a store in Milan.
But Crawford announced to “The Daily” that her daughter won’t be appearing in any more campaigns for the next seven years: “At this point, she’s too young to pursue a career. There aren’t even a handful of jobs for a 10-year-old girl.”
She does give Kaia the green light to follow in her footsteps later on in life: “But if she’s 17 and wants to try it, of course, what can I say?”
Not much, considering Crawford was discovered at 16 years old. Kaia’s father, Rande Gerber, was also a model.
Crawford’s strict stance may come as a surprise after she described her daughter’s modeling as a “fantastic experience” and said in a campaign press release: “I’m so thrilled that Kaia was chosen to be part of the first Young Versace Campaign. … I have so many fond memories of the times I spent with Gianni and Donatella.”
Many people recognized Kaia’s striking resemblance to her mother and she received praise from Donatella Versace.
“Like her mother,” Versace said, “Kaia has a very special gift. The camera really, really loves her.”
