Video: Bruno Mars Hosts ‘SNL,’ Debuts ‘Young Girls’

(Billboard) contributed to this report.

SNL scored this week with a nerded-out Bruno Mars singing Green Day and unannounced guest star Tom Hanks stopping by to mock the presidential debates.

Host and musical guest Mars continued the proud tradition of Justin Timberlake and Mick Jagger by pulling “SNL” double duty, though he admitted during his monologue he had no acting or comedy experience.

“I’ve never even done a shampoo commercial, which is crazy” (given his fabulous head of hair) he said. He asked the audience to be forgiving, and broke into a song that started off self-effacing, but grew into a confidant riff on how he was going to be an amazing host.

“But please be gentle,” he sang at the end, “because it’s my first time.”

Mars continued his hot streak in a sketch which took us inside the offices of the music streaming service Pandora and forced him to sing in the style of Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong.

Yes, the results were hilarious.

Pandora runs into an emergency, with the vocal tracks for Green Day songs somehow being taken out of commission for a while. It’s up to the nerdy intern (Mars) to sing the tracks live so listeners calling up the Green Day channel will be able to enjoy the songs. He (sort of) gets Green Day right, and then must move on to Aerosmith, Justin Bieber and Katy Perry.

Hanks made an appearance near the end of the episode’s cold open, meanwhile, which tackled the second presidential debate between President Barack Obama and GOP challenger Mitt Romney.

And in a recurrent series of ads, “SNL” also mocked Brad Pitt’s much-maligned Chanel commercials that hit recently, with the actor promoting everything from Taco Bell to dog condoms.

The next episode of “SNL” airs Nov. 3 with host Louis C.K. and musical guest Fun. performing.

Tom Hanks Blasts “Hideously Offensive” Blackface Costume at School Fundraiser

Published by EOTM News Editor on March 21st, 2012 - in Breaking News, Entertainment News

It turns out no famous person—not even Tom Hanks—is safe from the Internet and its vast depths of potentially humiliating material.

The Daily Caller, a conservative-leaning news site based in Washington, D.C., has posted a video featuring Hanks and the EaglesGlenn Frey emceeing an event at the private St. Matthew’s Parish School in Pacific Palisades. No big deal, right?

Not if you don’t include the white guy wearing blackface…

The ostensibly shocking footage shows a fellow parent—whom the Daily Caller identified as an investment banker—dressed in what apparently was his interpretation of an African tribal costume, complete with dark makeup on his face.

And Hanks performed with this guy? What does the two-time Oscar winner have to say for himself? This is Tom Hanks we’re talking about…

“For many years I emceed the annual fundraising auction for my kids’ school,” he said in a statement obtained by E! News. “In 2004, I was blindsided when one of the parents got up on the stage in a costume that was hideously offensive then and is hideously offensive now.  What is usually a night of food and drink for a good cause was, regrettably, marred by an appalling few moments.”

There’s been no response yet from Frey’s camp.

Hanks and Rita Wilson‘s youngest son, Truman, is 16, so he has since aged out of St. Matthew’s, which only runs to eighth grade.

“It is St. Matthew’s Parish School’s policy not to comment on any press inquiries regarding fundraisers or other school events,” a rep for the school told the Daily Caller.

The school’s annual auction appears to be a pretty swanky affair for the presumably well-heeled. Per the school’s website, this year’s big-ticket items include a tour of the Modern Family set, a week in Maui and four hours of babysitting from one family’s otherwise full-time nanny, the “beloved Mrs. Young.”
