Jets release Tim Tebow after only 1 season – EOTM Sports News

After being with the New York Jets one season, Tim Tebow has been released.  The Jets confirmed the news in a press release early Monday.

On April 15, Tim Tebow was working out at the Jets’ practice facility. (Mel Evans / AP)

“We have a great deal of respect for Tim Tebow,” coach Rex Ryan said. “Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we all had hoped.  Tim is an extremely hard worker, evident by the shape he came back in this off season. We wish him the best moving forward.”

Tebow was informed early Monday morning in a face-to-face meeting at the team’s facility with Ryan and general manager John Idzik, according to the Washington Post.

On Friday, the Jets made it clear that they were going in another direction by taking West Virginia’s Geno Smith in the second round of the NFL draft. He was the sixth QB on their roster (along with Greg McElroy, David Garrard and Matt Simms).

The NFL quaterback, speaking in Fort Worth on Sunday night, was asked about his future and said that he is “a member of the New York Jets.” He said that, the Star-Telegram’s Charean Williams reported, with a smile.

Tim Tebow’s brother apologizes

You gotta love this family….right?!

New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow’s brother has officially apologized for gloating about the Denver Broncosloss.

Peter Tebow apologized Monday for sending out a celebratory tweet when his brother’s old team lost in the NFL playoffs  on Sunday, (Denver’s 38-35 double-overtime loss to Baltimore.)

“Am I the only one in Denver who’s happy right now?”

He also poked fun at quarterback Peyton Manning for what he called “the awkward turtle sign.”

Fans accused Peter of having a non-Christian attitude for reveling in another team’s defeat. This caused Peter to backpedal on Monday:

My comment after the game was uncalled for. I may root for another team but I should never gloat about anyone’s misfortune. I’m truly sorry.

Tim Tebow was traded from the Broncos to the New York Jets last March.

Geesh…give folks a break…its all in good fun. But I guess if you believe in Karma…it would have been the best move for Peter. What are your thoughts? Share below in the comments.

Tim Tebow: ‘I don’t have any regrets’ on Jets season

Published by EOTM News Editor on January 10th, 2013 - in EOTM Sports News, NFL, Sports News, Tebow Mania

Via (CBS Sports)

A year after helping the Broncos to a division title and a wild-card playoff win over the Steelers, Tim Tebow found himself at the other end of the football-happiness spectrum. Traded to the Jets last March after Denver signed Peyton Manning, coach Rex Ryan said in the weeks and months leading up to training camp that Tebow would be a “major contributor” on offense, not to mention the special teams advantages he would offer as a punt protector.

Credit: US PressWire

All talk, it turned out.

By the time the season was over, Tebow’s line looked like this: 12 games, 6 for 8 passing for 39 yards, 2 sacks, 32 rushes for 102 yards and no touchdowns. Rock bottom came in Week 16 when Ryan benched Mark Sanchez for third-stringer Greg McElroy while a perfectly healthy Tebow watched from the sidelines.

McElroy suffered a concussion in the game and Ryan returned to Sanchez a week later while Tebow remained on the bench.

“It was my decision to stay with Sanchez [once McElroy was out with a concussion],” Ryan said at the time. “I was the only one who made that decision. It’s on me and, obviously, it didn’t work out the way I wanted it to. … If I thought Tebow would have helped us win the game playing quarterback or defensive tackle, I would have played him.”

Following that Week 17 loss, Tebow sounded understandably uncertain about his future in New York.

“I think I’ll have to take a few days to really soak in and think about everything that happened,” he said Sunday when asked if he could remain in New York though he wants to be a starter. “I think you have to take a few days to take it all in and look at the season. Obviously, there were ups and downs.”

On Wednesday, Tebow spoke for the first time since the season ended. During an appearance on the Fox Business Network, the former Heisman Trophy winner was asked about his time with the Jets.

“I don’t have any regrets,” Tebow said, via the Newark Star-Ledger. “I believe everything happens for a reason. I don’t know what my future holds, but I know who holds my future and in that there is a lot of peace and a lot of comfort.”

Doesn’t sound like somebody seriously considering the prospects of returning to New York. Tebow was noncommital on whether he’d be back in 2013, which was the answer Ryan and owner Woody Johnson offered up during their Wednesday press conference — the one where Ryan unveiled his plans for the Jets’ new “unpredictable” offense that is currently without a quarterback.

No way this doesn’t work out.

Tim Tebow and Camilla Belle call it quits

One day after New York Jets coach Rex Ryan announced that he was bypassing Tim Tebow and replacing Mark Sanchez with Greg McElroy, US Weekly is reporting that the Quarterback and actress Camilla Belle have broken up after only two months of dating.

A source told the magazine that the relationship “just didn’t work out.”

Tebow and the Push actress were first spotted together in Jacksonville, Florida on October 30th. They were having a great time together,” a source close to the couple said.

Tebow is a devout Christian and has publicly said he is a virgin and will remain so until marriage….wonder if that had anything to do with it.

The  backup quarterback is one of the most popular players in the NFL. He’s known for his strong religious beliefs and  ethical views.

(NFL) The New York Jets have announced that quarterback Mark Sanchez will be benched this week against the San Diego Chargers. Greg McElroy, not Tim Tebow, will start.

The Jets sent out the following tweet: “#EA Greg McElroy has been named the Jets starting QB for Sunday’s game with the San Diego Chargers.”

Jets coach Rex Ryan said making the switch is in the best interest of the Jets.

“Thats what I feel in my gut,” Ryan told reporters during a Tuesday conference call. “I like what I saw from Greg vs. Arizona, like what I see on the practice field. I truly believe it is best for our team right now. And that’s how I feel about it.

The 14-10 loss to the Tennessee Titans was the final straw for Sanchez. He threw four interceptions and fumbled the ball on the Titans 25-yard line to end the final chance at a rally. Sanchez has thrown 13 touchdowns, 17 interceptions and completed just 54.8 percent of his passes this season.

Ryan said he had a lot of conversations before informing Sanchez of his decision Monday night. He didn’t decide on who to start until Tuesday.

“I told Mark we needed to make a change, and he respected my decision,” Ryan said.

This is something that could have happened long ago. Ryan probably feels more comfortable making the change now that the Jets are eliminated from playoff contention.

The bigger news is Tebow was passed over by McElroy, who was inactive vs. the Titans. Tebow was signed during the offseason to be the No. 2 quarterback, and when Sanchez is finally yanked, he’s passed over? That in itself speaks volumes about how the coaching staff views Tebow. McElroy is not the quarterback of the future, so where does that leave the Jets?ACTIVE? Try Dr. Weil's Vitamin Advisor

The Tebow talk was constant throughout the season. It slowed recently with his injury. This will ramp it back up.

The Jets are officially a mess.

Quarterback Tim Tebow not suiting up for the New York Jets in Week 13..?

Published by EOTM News Editor on December 2nd, 2012 - in Breaking News, Entertainment News, NFL, Sports News

Quarterback Tim Tebow did not suit up for the New York Jets in Week 13. This however, comes as no surprise considering the football star has been rarely used in 2012. In addition, the popular backup quarterback also had an injury that lead to his Week 13 status, breaking two ribs in a game on Nov. 11 in Seattle. He still played against the Rams and was then active against the Patriots on Thanksgiving but did not play.

Getty Image

Coach Rex Ryan wouldn’t officially rule out Tebow, but it sounded unlikely he would play.

“We’re looking into it,” Ryan said Friday. “He’s been limited, really very limited in some of the snaps. He does take a few offensive snaps, but we’re just tracking it. We’ll see how he feels.

“Could it be a game-time decision? It could be.”

Ryan disputed an ESPN report Friday that said he had already made plans to keep Tebow inactive.

“It could be true, but right now, we haven’t done anything,” Ryan said. “I haven’t made that decision or anyone else made that decision. Whether there’s speculation or not, that’s a decision that I haven’t made.”

Third-stringer Greg McElroy would be the backup to Sanchez if Tebow is not active. Ryan insisted that players have been active and participated in games with broken ribs, and he will evaluate the situation leading up to kickoff. Tebow would wear heavy protection around his rib area if he does play.

Tebow said he didn’t do much during practice all week, and throwing still bothers his ribs — he’s a left-handed passer and the injury is on his left side. Despite Tebow being cleared by the team doctors to play, Ryan was criticized last week for keeping him active rather than McElroy.

“I feel like I’m getting a little bit better every day,” Tebow said. “Obviously, I’d love to be out there doing everything, but they’re trying to be smart, so just slowly progressing with things every day. It’ll be up to coach and the docs.”

Part of the decision involves Tebow’s role, in that he has only thrown seven passes all season and he is used mostly in wildcat-style packages on offense and as the punt protector on special teams. So, not being able to throw wouldn’t necessarily rule Tebow out from playing.

CyberChimps Professional WordPress Themes“You’re not going out there and asking him to throw it 50 times a game,” Ryan said. “If that was the case, I’m not sure he could do that.”

McElroy, a seventh-round pick last year out of Alabama, missed last season with a thumb injury and has been inactive every week so far this year.

“I’m sure it’ll be similar to last week where it’ll be a decision that’s made on game day and just before the game,” McElroy said. “But if Tim’s feeling healthy and ready to go, then he’ll be the guy.”

The Washington Post contributed to this report.

Tim Tebow on first!

Mark Sanchez, the Jets quarterback was out for the first snap of the 2012 regular season and Tim Tebow was on the field as well.

Tebow fans were thrilled to see their favorite backup quarterback on the field for nine plays on offense, including two in the wildcat package as the Jets beat the Buffalo Bills 48-28.

Bill Kostroun/Associated Press - New York Jets quarterbacks Mark Sanchez, left, and Tim Tebow celebrate after a touchdown during the second half of an NFL football game against the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium, Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, in East Rutherford, N.J.

Sanchez threw incomplete to rookie Stephen Hill on the other side. Tebow made his debut as the guy receiving a snap on the Jets’ fourth offensive play, following a first down throw to Hill. He handed off to running back Joe McKnight for a short gain, the play was a simple hand off.

“It was fun,” Tebow said of his Jets debut. “To be a part of a win like this is exciting.”

Sirius Satellite Radio Inc.The first wildcat formation came as Tebow lined up in the shotgun with Sanchez as a receiver. Tebow handed off to Joe McKnight for a gain of 3 yards.

Tebow’s biggest play actually came late in the game on special teams, when he recovered an onside kick late in the fourth quarter and ended a late surge by the Bills. It was the first time he recovered a kick, he said, since his freshman year at the University of Florida against Vanderbilt.

There has been a little concern about how Sanchez would react having to come off the field at times while Tebow did his thing. Sanchez said “ I bought in” and just want to win.

Sanchez threw for three touchdowns.

Mark Sanchez’s tryst with Eva Longoria helps to serve up a underwhelming preseason for the Jets

New York Jet’s quarterback Mark Sanchez has been spotted with actress Eva Longoria again over the weekend, and  it appears the two are no longer hiding their budding romance despite Sanchez’s front side is in jeopardy.

According to the New York Post:

Wearing a lace top that offered even less resistance than the Jets’ offensive line, the two took in a Broadway production of “Rock of Ages” and had a romantic dinner at Japanese hotspot Nobu in New York City.

After months of speculation surrounding the couple some feel it’s confirmation that Sanchez may be ready to settle down with Longoria. While Sanchez has been seen with multiple women all summer, the New York Post says Longoria is his favorite. “She’s been with him a lot,” said one source.

In July, according to Touch magazine Sánchez and Longoria were “testing the water” of the relationship.

Tebow, who is notoriously outspoken about his Christian faith, will highlight the service, called Easter on the Hill, which is expected to draw as many as 30,000 families, according to a news release. KVUE.com reports that the New York Jets quarterback will speak for 20 minutes during the service, which will begin at 10 a.m CT.

“As the son of an NFL coach,” founding pastor Joe Champion said in a statement, “and also someone who came to know Christ thanks to two NFL players who were willing to share the Gospel with me, I am extremely excited to have Tim Tebow with us this year. We believe this year’s service will impact the lives of those who would never enter the doors of a church.”

Organizers are building bleachers to accommodate the throngs of expected worshipers and football fans who hope to get their pictures taken alongside Tebow.

Despite Tebow’s popularity and charisma, Champion said that the service will not deviate from celebrating Easter.

“There will be the sacredness of Easter,” he said. “It’s not a Tim Tebow show. It’s not about a celebrity. There’s really only one celebrity that we are going to honor and highlight.”

New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow was calm, cool and collected at his press conference Monday in Florham Park, which housed over 200 media outlets.

Asked what he thought about the media crush, he said: “I really don’t think it will be much of a distraction because, honestly, I will try not to pay too much attention to it.”

The once Florida Gator, made it abundantly clear, that he is ‘excited‘ about joining the Jets. He is excited to help the team win games. He is excited to work with head coach Rex Ryan, who is excited to work with him, too. “I’m so excited to be a Jet.” And yes the excitement went on and on…

All the hoopla has been on Tebow the past week but we can’t forget, Sanchez is still the #1 Quarterback on the team, but not for long, we are predicting.

No matter how the Jets try to downplay the newcomer’s status, when a large majority of people across the nation think of this franchise now, they’re going to see Tebow.

With victories in seven of his first eight starts last season and a playoff victory on his resume, the 6-foot-3, 235-pound southpaw will go into training camp ready to compete for snaps, whether it’s at quarterback or any other position on the field.

“However I can help the team, however I can make a difference, however they can use me, I’ll be open to it and work as hard as I can every time I step on the field,” Tebow said. “I will give my whole heart and soul to being the best Jet I can possibly be in trying to help this team win football games.”

Catch all the excitement for yourself right now ….
