Tupac Resurrected at Coachella?

On Sunday night a ghostly version of West Coast rap legend Tupac Shakur materialized on stage alongside his old friend Snoop Dogg during a crowd-pleasing set by the Doggfather and Dr. Dre, which also featured appearances from Eminem, 50 Cent, Wiz Khalifa and Warren G.

“What up, Coachella?” the shirtless Pac, asked the crowd before bouncing into the classic single “Hail Mary.

The Tupac hologram was spectacular. His abs still looked great and there was a certain spring in his step as he and (the living) Snoop rapped their collaboration “2 of Americaz Most Wanted.”

“We worked with Dr. Dre on this and it was Dre’s vision to bring this back to life,” said Nick Smith, president of AV Concepts, the San Diego company that created the hologram. “It was his idea from the very beginning and we worked with him and his camp to utilize the technology to make it come to life.”

50 Cent arrived to do bits of his early classics — “Wanksta,” “P.I.M.P.” and “In Da Club” — and the masses were enthusiastic and welcoming to our East Coast guest. Eminem waltzed out casually, his hoodie pulled up, to salute Dre’s work with some verses — the best of which was a snippet of “Forgot About Dre,” a Dre track from 2001. Snoop and Dre honored the late singer Nate Dogg, the soulful singer who provided hooks on some of G-funk’s classic jams as well.

Dre and Snoop closed Coachella 2012, Part 1 on a high note and delivered the California vibe to a lot of its happy fans. What were your thoughts? Leave comments below.
