Chris Lighty’s brother ‘wants the truth to come out’ suicide doesn’t seem fathomable

On Thursday,  August 30th hip hop fans worldwide mourned the loss of  music executive, Chris Lighty from an apparent suicide, he was 44. The news first broke on Twitter and later confirmed on New York Daily News.

According to the news site Lighty shot himself after an argument with his ex-wife, Veronica Lighty, inside his Bronx apartment.
Veronica recently spoke with the Daily News in regards to her husbands passing saying, ” financial and marital woes had nothing to do with his demise. My husband was too smart of a man. He was a genius. No smart man is going to leave his children for fighting with his wife. That makes absolutely no sense. We had a passionate relationship. We fought all the time,” she said.
Since Lighty’s death news sites had suggested the couple was in fact divorced, however, Veronica confirmed she had filed for divorce last year, but retracted it two days before Father’s Day, “that was my gift to him,”she added.

Veronica, who has two children by the music exec, said she and her husband had worked out their financial difficulties and that they were not getting a divorce.

The Associated Press reported Friday that Lighty had recently sold one of his properties and used the proceeds from the sale to pay off most of the IRS debt. But he still owed more than $330,000 in state and federal taxes.

The hip hop moguls wife is not the only one that feels “suicide is not fathomable,” his brother Dave Lighty recently spoke with Fox 5 News and Hot 97 in regards to his sudden death, and this is what he had to say:

“I’m surprised, shocked, and lost at this moment. I want the truth to come out. This isn’t my brother. My brother was a strong person, is a strong person. Nothing is adding up. I can’t get a direct answer from anybody…I understand there’s a process to be followed. I can’t even get clear answers from people I think I should be getting clear answers from. Everyone’s like ‘that’s not the Chris I know’ in no way, shape, or form. Things were popping. Primary wave was the biggest management company in America, what else could be going wrong. Yeah, we’re in a bad economy, that’s everywhere. Nah. Not this. We’ve been in way worse situations than this. I just want to know what really happened to my brother. If he did take his own life, alright, I just wish he could have reached out and spoken to us. We were all here for him. I just want the truth, the truth”

Dave urged the NYPD to do a full investigation before concluding his brother’s death a suicide, however, a day after his death the New York City medical examiner’s office did in fact rule the death a suicide. The medical examiner’s office said Lighty died from a self-inflicted wound.
