Johnson received a year of probation last September after pleading no contest to a domestic violence charge involving his former wife, reality star Evelyn Lozada.

The six-time Pro Bowl player was arrested in August after Lozada said he head-butted her during an argument. She quickly filed for divorce, which was finalized days before his conviction. They only had been married since July 4.

“Given the recent events that have taken place, Evelyn has decided to file for divorce and move on with her life,” Lozada’s lawyer, Michael B. Gilden, told the TV show “The Insider” in a statement.

Johnson released his own statement — the first since his arrest — on his official website, OCNN, and reaffirmed his love for Lozada.

“I am going to let the legal process run its course. I wish Evelyn nothing but the best, I have no negative words to say about her, the only thing I can say is I love her very much,” said Johnson, who was dumped by the Miami Dolphins a day after the arrest.

Evelyn Lozado and Chad Johnson: Happier times

“I will continue to be positive and stay training hard for another opportunity in the NFL. I appreciate all my fans and supporters and if I have disappointed you in any way, you have my sincerest apologies. Once again I will continue to stay positive and appreciate all the support during this tough period in my life.”

The marriage imploded Saturday after an argument between the two ended with Lozada being treated at a hospital for lacerations to her head.

According to Davie, Fla., police, Lozada found a receipt for condoms and confronted Johnson about it at dinner. The argument continued during their drive home, and when they arrived at their driveway, he allegedly head-butted her.

In a 911 call released by authorities, a neighbor told police that there was an incident involving a “high-profile person” and is heard telling Lozada to wipe the blood from her head. Lozada is heard saying that Johnson head-butted her, and the caller says Lozada will probably need stitches.

However, Johnson told police she head-butted him.

Earlier Tuesday, Lozada said in a statement: “I am deeply disappointed that Chad has failed to take responsibility for his actions and made false accusations against me, it is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles. Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well.”

However, Lozada has been prone to violence: On the VH1 series “Basketball Wives,” where she gained her fame, she became infamous for attacks on other castmates. In June, she apologized for her behavior and in a letter to her younger self posted on The Huffington Post, she blamed her penchant for fighting on violence in her own household growing up.

Johnson is a six-time Pro Bowler who last season was on the New England Patriots. His July 4 wedding to Lozada – whom he courted publicly on “Basketball Wives” – was taped for a spinoff show called “Ev & Ocho.” It was due to debut Sept. 3, but VH1 shelved it after Johnson’s weekend arrest.

Johnson – formerly known as Chad Ochocinco - and Lozada were prominently featured in the recent first episode of HBO’s “Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Miami Dolphins.”

Lozada was the former fiancee of former NBA player Antoine Walker and has been one of the main stars of “Basketball Wives,” which also features Shaunie O’Neal, the former wife of former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal.

In court papers filed on Tuesday, Lozada says the two had a premarital agreement but asks Johnson pay for her attorney fees associated with the divorce.

Besides ending her marriage, Lozada also was mourning the loss of her brother-in-law, who walked her down the aisle and was to be a part of the “Ev & Ocho” show

Chad Johnson cut by Miami Dolphins after arrest

VH1 today pulled the reality television program “Ev & Ocho” after allegations of domestic violence surfaced for NFL player Chad Johnson.

“Due to the unfortunate events over the weekend and the seriousness of the allegations, VH1 is pulling the series ‘Ev and Ocho’ from its schedule and has no current plans of airing it,” a spokesperson wrote to ABC News in a statement.

The former Dolphins reality show was expected to begin airing in the fall and was to chronicle Evelyn Lozado and Johnson’s marital bliss.

The team terminated the six-time Pro Bowl receiver’s contract about 24 hours after he was arrested in a domestic battery case involving his wife.

Johnson was released from jail on $2,500 bond earlier Sunday after his wife accused him of head-butting her during an argument in front of their home. Johnson was charged with simple domestic battery, a misdemeanor.

“As with any type of these decisions, it was not an easy one, it was not reactive, nor was it based on one single incident. In making these decisions we base our evaluations on a set of criteria that support our organizational goals and include a player’s performance both on and off the field,” said Miami head coach Joe Philbin. “Essentially, we take into account the overall body of evidence to determine whether an individual is the right fit for this organization, and more specifically this football team.”

According to an arrest affidavit, Johnson’s wife said she was taking groceries into their home when she found the receipt in the car’s trunk. When the two were seated back in the car, they began talking about the receipt and their marriage. That’s when Johnson got upset and head-butted his wife, the report says.

Lozada ran to a neighbor’s house and called police. A responding officer said he saw a 3-inch cut on Lozada’s forehead, according to the affidavit.

Johnson did not have any visible marks or bruises. When questioned by police, he confirmed there was an argument over the receipt, but said his wife had head-butted him.

The officer, based on interviews and observations, charged Johnson with simple domestic battery.

Lozada was treated at a hospital for a cut to her forehead, Engle said.

If convicted, Johnson faces a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Just two days ago, the 34-year-old veteran was sitting atop the Dolphins’ wide receiver depth chart. Now his career could very well be over.

Johnson was arrested after police arrived on the scene and found VH1′s  Evelyn Lozada with lacerations on her forehead. He told police the two of them had accidentally bumped heads.

According to police, Lozada confronted her husband after finding a receipt for condoms, which started a “heated argument.”

Johnson is also a star on the HBO reality series “Hard Knocks,” which is focusing on the Dolphins’ training camp this season. In this past week’s opening episode, he said Lozada wouldn’t have sex with him during his dismal year with the New England Patriots last season, but that he knew he was in love with her because she’s the only one who can cause him to pause the video game “Call of Duty.”

Johnson and Lozada were married in July. Soon after, he legally changed his last name from Ochocinco back to Johnson, saying his wife insisted that he do so.

The six-time Pro Bowl selection will remain in custody until a bail hearing is set, which might not be until Monday, said captain Dale Engle of the Davie (Fla.) Police Department.
