As to be expected, Rick Ross releases rap about harrowing experience in recent drive by – “I can’t believe I’m alive”

When I think of gangsta rap, first thing that comes to mind is hip hop that reflects urban crime and the violent lifestyles of inner-city youths. The lyrical style has varied from accurate reflections to fictionalized accounts. Speaking of fictionalized accounts…well….just two days after rapper  Rick Ross  narrowly escaped death by drive by, the self proclaimed ‘BOSS’ is rapping about it.

On Monday Ross was reportedly targeted in a drive by shooting whereas a gunman opened fire on Ross‘s vehicle as he drove his Rolls-Royce in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The rapper apparently lost control of his car and crashed into an apartment building, according to police officials. There were no bullet holes in car and no one was injured, the gunmen/man is still at large.

“I can’t believe I’m alive,” he rapped about his near-death experience into a recording by rapper, Kendrick Lamar, titled B—- Don’t Kill my Vibe.

The track was released Monday, less than a day after the incident — talk about marketing…genius…eh ?

Well, I am happy to purport I am not the only skeptical hip hop lover that feels things sounds a little fishy with Ross’s story. Rapper 50 Cent, who might I add knows a little something; something about street violence, credibility, etc., having been shot nine times in a single incident, took to twitter to basically say that perhaps….just perhaps the crash was in fact a fake and part of a scheme by Ross to try and seem more gangster…thuggish like..?

Fiddy tweeted:

“Hahaha fat boy hit the building?lol it looks staged to me. No hole’s in da car,” attaching an Instagram pic of the car with zero bullet holes. He also added, “Nah they shot in the air then he drove into a building. Man they missed the whole f*cking car, where they do that at,” the rapper tweeted.

WPLG confirmed that no bullets hit Ross, his passenger or his car. Several boutiques and cafes lining Las Olas were not as lucky. Windows of storefronts were blown out on the north and south sides of the street.

“Yeah, bad shot,” veteran investigator Joe Matthews told WPLG.

“Freeway” Ricky Ross, a notorious Los Angeles drug kingpin also chimed in about the incident releasing a statement to HipHopDX.

“I’m not surprised that it happened given recent ongoings, when someone doesn’t understand the street rules they get confused and incidents like this can take place,” he said. “I’m still dealing with ongoing litigation about something as basic as using my name and identity, that should have been dealt with properly a long time ago. No ill will is wished upon anyone, but when you tell these stories about the streets you have to be careful.”

The actual 911 call has just been released my Florida officials. The call was made by an unidentified woman early Monday morning from a restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida … while the rapper was trying to speed away from the shooter in his Rolls-Royce.

“I just heard a bunch of gunshots go off … and a car sped by.”

The caller then interrupted the operator and said, “Oh my god, they’re turning around and coming back … I’m hanging up.”

When the operator tried to ask more questions about the situation — the caller shot back, “They’re coming back … I’m hiding.”

The caller then hangs up the phone.

Well it definitely appears his latest track may go gold after-all.

Rick Ross Shooting Being Investigated By Police & 50 Cent Goes on Record to say it Was Staged

We first reported on this story yesterday whereas a gunman allegedly opened fire on Rick Ross‘s vehicle early Monday morning as he drove his Rolls-Royce in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The rapper apparently lost control of his car and crashed into an apartment building, according to police officials. No one was injured and no gunman has been apprehended to date.

Ross was riding with girlfriend Shateria L. Moragne-El when the unidentified gunman opened fire. According to some reports, Ross’ car managed to avoid the gunfire although some witnesses reported hearing more than a dozen shots…possibly shot into the air.

In these very unfortunate series of events …well  there is at least one person in the hip hop community that doesn’t believe Ross was targeted in a drive by.

Rapper 50 Cent, thinks that the crash might have been fake … perhaps part of a scheme by Ross to try and seem more gangster…thuggish like..?

It wouldn’t be the first time a rapper has staged scenes for major hype. The labels aren’t paying for the buzz campaigns anymore for many of the mainstream artists.

Well the legit gangsta rapper took to Twitter to share his thoughts:

As to 50 cent it seems he was joking and poking fun in his tweets….but you never can surely tell. The two have been feuding for some years now…starting after Ross accused 50 of looking at him the wrong way at the 2009 BET awards. Ross also came out with “Mafia Music ” which seemed to take shots at 50.

By Cain Cawthon – Like EOTM! Online on Facebook

Hip hop mogul 50 Cent has been granted a license to promote boxing matches in Las Vegas. He was officially approved by the Nevada State Athletic Commission this week, just two weeks after severing ties with Floyd Mayweather.

According to ESPN.com, 50 Cent decided to launch his own SMS Promotions after a falling out with Floyd Mayweather, whereas he failed to come up with his share of the money, 50 said he promised to put up.

During the questioning process, 50 said he and Mayweather had previously agreed to go into the boxing promotions business together, but, when the boxer “came out of incarceration (on Aug. 3 after two months in county jail in Las Vegas) he decided he wanted to do things differently, but I had already invested $1.5 million in acquiring fighters and I would like to move forward.”Check Your VIN Instantly - VinAudit.com

Despite the betrayal, 50 said he and Mayweather had no written agreement between each other.

In all, the rapper said he spent $500,000 toward the company in addition to the money he spent in acquiring fighters. His roster includes former featherweight titlist Yuriorkis Gamboa, featherweight titlist Billy Dib, and super middleweight contender Andre Dirrell.

50 Cent was previously licensed in New York.

How will “Chris Lighty” one of the most powerful figures in the hip hop business be remembered in Pop Culture..?

“Be very serious, be focused. You got nothing to lose in this game by being consistent, and not just thinking you are going to get in and make 100 million dollars, cause that’s not going to happen. Make a career; I rather sell 10 million records over ten years than 10 million records once, it’s a business,” Chris Lighty.

For many Chris Lighty will be remembered as one of the most powerful figures in the hip hop business. A fundamental key player in transforming the  rap game from being grimey to appealing to mainstream media, ushering in the era of white collared hip hop moguls.

Chris Lighty - May 8, 1968 – August 30, 2012 - Image credit: Jim Cooper - AP

Brokering some of the biggest deals in hip hop music with entities like Sprite and Coca Cola. The brain behind 50 cents’ energy drink which netted the rapper more than $400 million dollars and negotiating LL Cool J’s Gap endorsement back in 1999, which was one of the most genius case studies in hip hop to date. It was also momentous due to the fact that LL Cool J was the first rapper to ever be called on to endorse a mainstream apparel company.

LL Cool J:

“Jeans popping in every mall in town and city. G-A-P gritty, ready to go, for us, by us, on the low,” he rapped.

And that right there ya’ll was something sales and marketing experts like to call, ‘guerilla marketing 101.’  With the help of Chris Lighty, the hip hop icon was able to incorporate a little somethin somethin for his financial interests, on the sly…promoting all things, ‘FUBU.’

To be given the opportunity to endorse a company as big as Gap and then successfully add a smaller apparel name to the final product was straight, ‘gangsta.’ As you can see from the video above, LL Cool J also rocked a FUBU hat during his commercial spot.

Lighty also claimed to have been instrumental in hooking up Gee and his client Drake with a Sprite endorsement, saying, “Here’s a quick $850,000, let’s get busy baby.”

Chris Lighty’s focal point was to build rappers and their brands without sacrificing their connections to their hood.

During his career in the industry he founded Violator, a record label, management, and marketing company which represented Nas, 50 cent, Ja Rule, Mobb Deep, Missy Elliott, LL Cool J, Sean “Diddy” Combs and Mariah Carey to name a few.

The New York Times called him “one of the most powerful figures in the hip-hop business.”

According to Forbes, Lighty merged Violator with Primary Wave Talent Management to form Primary Violator Management last year, in a move that could have potentially brought even bigger deals.

The 44-year-old reportedly owed the IRS $5 million in taxes.

Despite the entrepreneur taking his own life, his portfolio is very impressive and his work speaks for itself. He leaves a legacy for his family, friends, fans and entrepreneurs alike. So as we ponder over his reasons of why he did what he did…let’s stop. Focus on what he left behind for the seasoned professionals as well as the up and coming entertainers/entrepreneurs that find themselves immersed in the music industry, an industry that many have sacrificed so much to be in. An industry that is built for the strong, not the weak or the naysayers.

Lighty had immeasurable impact on the music industry and has left a clear path to success for those that choose it. His platform makes it possible for a generation of entertainers to learn and flourish.

In a 2010 interview Lighty shared his thoughts on what it takes to make it in the music business and leaves us with an uncanny quote on the industry and his life….watch the video below.

“Be very serious, be focused. You got nothing to lose in this game by being consistent, and not just thinking you are going to get in and make 100 million dollars, cause that’s not going to happen. Make a career; I rather sell 10 million records over ten years than 10 million records once, it’s a business. Everybody fronting like the money is nonstop, it’s nonstop until it stops. I’ve seen a lot of people come and go in the game so, I plan to be here until I decide I don’t wanna be here know more,” Lighty said.

Gandhi famously said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” I don’t doubt that, in recent years, Lighty did just that. Lighty made the rap game more beautiful and his family, friends, fans, colleagues, clients loved him for it. Lighty made the rap game more ideal, and the billions of us with no voice will be forever impacted.

EOTM! Online extends our condolences to the Lighty family, Violator Entertainment and all of Chris’ friends and associates. Leave your comments below.

50 Cent Sued Over Violent Attack

50 Cent employs violent known criminals who viciously attack women when they don’t get their way … this according to a new lawsuit.

According to the suit, obtained by TMZ, 50 Cent hired a guy named Dwayne McKenzie — although it’s not clear exactly what McKenzie did for the rapper.  The suit alleges McKenzie invited some women over to 50′s mansion in Connecticut.  During the party, McKenzie began making “graphic and vulgar sexual requests” of one woman.

The plaintiff, Vasti Ortiz, apparently became uncomfortable and started to leave.  She claims that’s when McKenzie ordered another woman to start beating on her while he held her down … badly hurting her.

So why is 50 being sued, aside from the fact that he’s rich?  Ortiz claims 50 knew or should have known McKenzie was a known criminal who had assaulted in the past.

50 was not present during the alleged attack.
