James on Thursday was named the Most Valuable Player of the NBA Finals after leading the Heat to the crown, capturing his long-sought first championship and delivering on the promise he made to Heat fans when he came to Miami two years ago.

A euphoric crowd showered James with adoration as he basked in the moment.

“It’s about damn time,” James said gleefully during the trophy presentation, while also calling it “the happiest day in my life” and “a dream come true. It means everything, I made a difficult decision to leave Cleveland but I understood what my future was about … I knew we had a bright future (in Miami). This is a dream come true for me. This is definitely when it pays off.”

The Heat took control in the second quarter, briefly lost it and blew the game open again in the third behind their role players, James content to pass to wide-open 3-point shooters while the Thunder focused all their attention on him, which made it all the more easier to sweep pass, clinching the title.
