Justin Timberlake to Play Clint Eastwood’s Pal in ‘Trouble with the Curve’

Singer-turned-actor Justin Timberlake has once again scored a role in a potential high-profile movie project. After starring in Oscar-winning “The Social Network“, the 31-year-old star is now set to join none other than Clint Eastwood in baseball drama “Trouble with the Curve“.

According to Variety, Timberlake is cast as Eastwood’s friend Johnny Flanagan. His character is described as a “former pitcher who now works as a baseball scout for the New York Yankees.” Timberlake will also be the love interest to Eastwood’s on-screen daughter (Amy Adams).

Eastwood himself is set to portray an aging baseball scout, who loses his sight and heads on a last road trip to Atlanta with his daughter to scout a hotshot prospect. The veteran actor’s longtime comrade Robert Lorenz will direct the film, while Randy Brown has been tapped as the screenwriter. The production is expected to start this March as the film is set for a September 28 release in the U.S. theaters.

“Trouble with the Curve” will mark Eastwood’s first acting stint after he last starred in 2008′s “Gran Torino“. At that time, he said the movie would likely become his last acting stint. Though so, he hinted that he might consider to return someday. “You never know when I’ll be back,” he said to Entertainment Weekly.

As for Timberlake, aside from this movie, he will be soon filming the Coen brothers’ folk music movie called “Inside Llewyn Davis“, which also stars Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan. The actor was last seen starring in some adult comedy pics like “Bad Teacher” and “Friends with Benefits“, as well as action movie “In Time“.

Paula Abdul fired from ‘The X Factor’

W hile the firing of “The X Factor” host Steve Jones and judge Nicole Scherzinger was long expected, Hollywood was stunned by the news that Paula Abdul also was axed in a major shakeup of the music competition show — being called a “bloodbath” by show insiders.

Getty Images

Speaking of being stunned? That included Abdul, who is said to be furious about her ouster — despite issuing a statement Tuesday saying she understood “how business decisions oftentimes override personal considerations.”

Those “business decisions” included a careful analysis of the first season of “The X Factor” by show producers and the Fox network — whose research indicated Abdul was thought too “soft” to compete with the other judges and the audience “just did not connect with Nicole,” said a major Fox source.

Simon Cowell (who will remain as a judge with L.A. Reid) and Abdul went out of their way to indicate they remain close, sources on “The X Factor” contradict that.

The parting was “anything but amicable and there were a lot of angry words,” said a key show staff member. “I know Simon and Paula say they’re still friends, and Simon’s claiming he and Paula will again work together, but there will have to be some time for that [rift] to heal after what went down the past few days.”

Another “X” staffer said that “while Steve knew he wasn’t coming back [and] realized that sadly he just didn’t connect with the U.S. audience — everyone was stunned that Nicole thought she’d be back for the second season.

“On top of being an impossible diva to work with, so many fans really hated her — especially after her vote led to [popular young contestant] Rachel Crow being eliminated.”

† Realizing how Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler have added superstar power to his old “American Idol” show, Cowell reportedly is courting major music stars such as Beyonce and Mariah Carey as potential judges for the sophomore season of “The X Factor.”

Paula Abdul & Nicole Scherzinger Leave The X Factor

Published by EOTM News Editor on January 31st, 2012 - in Breaking News, Celebrity News, Entertainment News, Music

What’s even more dramatic than frontrunner Rachel Crow collapsing into sobs after a shocking elimination from The X Factor?

The shakeup that’s shaping up for season 2 of the Fox singing competition.

On the heels of the news that Steve Jones was leaving
the show as host, judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger are reportedly out as well, according to EW.com.

Abdul had a tough time mentoring the groups, becoming the first judge without contestants on season 1. And Scherzinger faced serious backlash after Crow’s elimination.

With the women off the judges’ panel, record producer L.A. Reid and Simon Cowell, who is also the executive producer of the talent competition, are the only familiar faces that remain.

Speculation about a possible casting change began brewing in December, although Jones originally brushed off talk of his exit as “a fabrication.”

A week later, Cowell told PEOPLE he would be making some changes for the sophomore season. And so it appears he did.

A U.K. rep for Cowell could not comment on reports of the departures but said that “discussions and negotiations” are standard after a first season ends. “This happens after every show or series,” he added. “No decisions have been made that I am aware of.”

Here is what Kim Kardashian said about the new collection,“We have to get everything tailored, so in this collection, we wanted to make sure that you didn’t have to tailor anything. “It was the exact way we like it — from the fabrics being very comfortable and stretchy to fitting all of our body types.”

Etta James honored with speeches, songs at service

Los Angeles County – Etta James was remembered at a service Saturday attended by hundreds of friends, relatives and fans as a woman who triumphed against all odds to break down cultural and musical barriers in a style that was unfailingly honest.

James died last Friday at age 73 after battling leukemia and other ailments, including dementia. She was most famous for her classic "At Last," but over her decades-long career, she became revered for her passionate singing voice. (AP Photo/Ringo H.W. Chiu)

The Rev. Al Sharpton eulogized James in a rousing speech, describing her remarkable rise from poverty and pain to become a woman whose rendition of “At Last” became an enduring anthem.

Perhaps most famously, President Obama and the first lady shared their first inaugural ball dance to a version of the song sung by Beyonce. Sharpton on Saturday opened his remarks by reading a statement from the president.

“Etta will be remembered for her legendary voice and her contributions to our nation’s musical heritage,” Obama wrote.

The Grammy-winning singer died Jan. 20 after battling leukemia and other ailments. She had retreated from public life in recent years, but on Saturday her legacy was on display as mourners of all ages and races converged on the City of Refuge church in Gardena, south of downtown Los Angeles.

Among the stars performing tributes to James were Stevie Wonder and Christina Aguilera, who told the gathering that she has included “At Last” in every concert she has performed as a tribute to her musical inspiration.

Sharpton, who met James when he was an up-and-coming preacher, credited her with helping break down racial barriers through her music.

“She was able to get us on the same rhythms and humming the same ballads and understanding each other’s melodies way before we could even use the same hotels,” Sharpton said.

Throughout the service, a portrait of James as a woman who beat the odds in pursuit of her dreams repeatedly emerged.

“Etta is special to me and for me, because she represents the life, the triumphs, the tribulations of a lot of black women all over this world,” said Rep Maxine Waters, D-Los Angeles.

James won four Grammy Awards, including a lifetime achievement honor, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.

Tiger Woods shoots 66 to share lead in Abu Dhabi

Published by EOTM News Editor on January 28th, 2012 - in Breaking News, Sports, Sports News

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates –  Tiger Woods put himself in position to win his second straight tournament Saturday, and this one would leave little doubt about which direction his game is going.

He finally won two months ago against an 18-man field in California.

On Saturday, against the strongest field golf has seen in at least three months, Woods shot a 6-under 66 for a share of the lead with Robert Rock going into the final round of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship.

The topic suddenly shifts from the state of his swing and his health. Woods has a 55-8 record worldwide when he has at least a share of the lead going into the final round, and a win would be the first time since August 2009 that he has won consecutive starts.

More than being atop the leaderboard, it’s how Woods got there.

“It’s fun when I’m able to control the golf ball like I did,” Woods said.

There wasn’t a lot of fist-pumping from Woods, who traded drama for consistency, racking up six birdies in a bogey-free round. It was a memorable performance by the American, mostly for his ability to hit fairways, tame the par 5s and sink clutch putts — including a 6-footer for birdie on the final hole.

“It just seemed like I didn’t do a lot of things right but I didn’t do a lot of things wrong today, it was just very consistent,” Woods said. “You know, made a couple putts here and there. … I stayed away from trouble and tried to keep the ball towards the fat side of some of these pins, and I think I did a pretty good job.”

Woods finished at 11-under 205. Rock, at No. 117 in the world, birdied his final two holes to join Woods in the last group along with Peter Hanson, who had a 64 and was two shots behind.

Also two back at 9-under 207 were Rory McIlroy, who played with Woods for the third straight day and had a 68, keeping the No. 3 player very much in the picture.

Francesco Molinari (66) and Paul Lawrie (68) also were tied for third. George Coetzee (65), James Kingston (67), overnight leader Thorbjorn Olesen (71) and Jean-Baptiste Gonnet (69) were another shot back.

Adele’s ’21′ – Biggest No. 1 Album Since ‘Bodyguard’

(Billboard) It seems that every week, there is a new Adele-related accolade to tout.

And this week is no different, as her “21″ album hits its 17th week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart (95,000; down 9%). “21″ has been No. 1 longer than any other album since “The Bodyguard” soundtrack wrapped a 20-week run at No. 1 on the chart dated May 29, 1993.

Could “21″ hold on another week at the top? That all depends on how new albums from Tim McGraw (“Emotional Traffic”), Celtic Woman (“Believe”) and Kellie Pickler (“100 Proof”) — among others — sell this week. Also new to market: the “2012 Grammy Nominees” compilation.

Elsewhere on this week’s chart, the “Kidz Bop 21″ album debuts at No. 2 with 59,000 sold. That entry grants the long-running series its 14th top 10 set and fourth to reach the runner-up slot. (The “Kidz” have yet to claim a No. 1 set on the Billboard 200.) The last “Kidz” set — “Kidz Bop 20″ — started at No. 2 as well, with 69,000 sold on the chart dated Aug. 6, 2011.

TurboTax is Easy, Free Edition, Fast Refund

The second-highest debut arrives at No. 7 by James Fortune & FIYA, who sees its “Identity” land with 18,000. It’s the best sales week and highest charting album for the gospel singer — who also debuts at No. 1 on the Gospel Albums chart. On the latter tally, it’s his first leader after reaching No. 2 twice previously.

As for the rest of the top 10 this week, the Black Keys‘ “El Camino” holds at No. 3 (29,000; down 20%) while Drake‘s “Take Care” is also stationary at No. 4 (29,000; down 8%). (Only a couple hundred sales separate the two titles this week.)

Rihanna‘s “Talk That Talk” is up two slots to No. 5 (20,000; down 8%), Young Jeezy‘s “TM103: Hustlerz Ambition” is steady at No. 6 (19,000; down 19%), and Toby Keith‘s “Clancy’s Tavern” zooms 22-8 with 17,000 (up 27%). The latter album’s physical CD was sale priced for just $4.99 at Target stores last week. Also only $4.99 last week: George Strait‘s “Icon” greatest hits (118-66 with 6,000; up 63%) and Le’Andria Johnson‘s “The Awakening of Le’Andria Johnson” (174-79 with 5,000; up 78%).

Rounding out the top 10 are Coldplay‘s “Mylo Xyloto” (moving 8-9 with 17,000; down 13%) and Nickelback‘s “Here and Now” (falling 9-10 with just under 17,000; down 13%).

Right outside the top 10 is the third biggest entry of the week, as Attack Attack’s “This Means War” bows at No. 11 (17,000). Right behind that is the surging “Joyful Noise” soundtrack, which zips 21-12 with a bit under 17,000 (up 23%).

On the Digital Songs chart, David Guetta‘s “Turn Me On,” featuring Nicki Minaj, blasts from No. 7 to No. 1, selling 198,000 downloads (up a whopping 44%). It’s the first No. 1 on the Digital tally for either artist, and should bode well for the song’s fortunes on the overall Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. (News on the latter list will be released later on Wednesday.)

Last week’s No. 1, Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain,” slips to No. 2 with 185,000 (down 4%). Right behind her is a hard-charging Kelly Clarkson, which sees her “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” fly 11-3 with 175,000 sold (up 48%).

Tyga‘s “Rack City” falls one spot to No. 4 (148,000; down 11%), Flo Rida‘s “Good Feeling” slips 2-5 with 142,000 (down 21%) and Rihanna’s “We Found Love” holds at No. 6 with 140,000 (up less than 1%). LMFAO‘s “Sexy and I Know It” slides three rungs to No. 7 (134,000; down 14%), Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa‘s “Young, Wild & Free” drops three to No. 8 (134,000; down 11%) and Jessie J‘s “Domino” hits the top 10 for the first time, climbing 16-9 (122,000; up 25%). Closing out the top 10 is Katy Perry‘s “The One That Got Away,” which returns to the top 10, rising 14-10 with 117,000 sold (up 9%). The latte benefits from an acoustic version of the song, which was released to digital retailers on Jan. 16.

Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending Jan. 22) totaled 5.01 million units, down 1% compared to the sum last week (5.10 million) and down 4% compared to the comparable sales week of 2011 (5.25 million). Year to date album sales stand at 15.95 million, up 3% compared to the same total at this point last year (15.54 million).

Digital track sales this past week totaled 27.89 million downloads, down 2% compared to last week (28.56 million) and up 6% stacked next to the comparable week of 2011 (26.38 million). Year to date track sales are at 89.21 million, up 7% compared to the same total at this point last year (83.60 million).

Next week’s Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2011 when: Amos Lee‘s “Mission Bell” rang the bell at No. 1, debuting with 40,000. Iron & Wine‘s “Kiss Each Other Clean” started in the runner-up slot with 39,000. The previous week’s No. 1, the Decemberists‘ “The King Is Dead,” fell to No. 10 with 29,000 (down 69%).

Rihanna thug life tattoo

Role model, Rihanna…NO! Maybe once upon a time, but fame has definitely turned a former “good girl,” bad, and despite the pop singers money and privilege, it seems she would rather be branded like a common thug. The bad girl revealed a spanking new tattoo, Thug Life’ – inscribed on her knuckles in a fetching pale pink shade.

There’s no way it’s permanent. . . Right? Per TMZ, “Rihanna must be a huge Tupac fan … because she just tatted the words THUG LIFE — on her fists! RiRi hit up an LA tattoo parlor yesterday to get her hardcore ink started … it doesn’t look complete in the photo she tweeted out early this morning. It could be a temporary tat, but still. . .”

Brooklyn-born Farentino, who appeared in dozens of movies and TV shows and even earned an Emmy nod for his performance as Saint Peter.

In 1967, he won a Most Promising Newcomer Golden Globe for his performance in the comedy “The Pad and How to Use It.”

He also had recurring roles on “Dynasty,” “Melrose Place,” “The Bold Ones: The Lawyers” and even played George Clooney’s estranged father on “ER.”

In 1994, Farentino pleaded no contest after being charged with 24 misdemeanor counts of stalking Tina Sinatra, making harassing phone calls and violating a restraining order to stay away from her. “Sometimes they were the perfect couple,” a friend of Farentino’s told PEOPLE at the time, “and other times there’d be raging fights – yelling, screaming, name-calling, throwing things.”

In 2010, Farentino was booked on suspicion of misdemeanor battery after a citizen’s arrest was made against the actor. Police were called to Farentino’s Hollywood home. He was taken into custody and booked at the LAPD’s Hollywood-area station. Farentino was released two days later after posting $20,000 bond. Police said the actor was trying to physically remove a man from his house. The man, who police said suffered visible bruising, made a citizen’s arrest on Farentino for battery.

Obama’s State of the Union speech 2012

Published by EOTM News Editor on January 24th, 2012 - in Breaking News, Politics, Trending, World News

For a brief moment before he entered the chamber, Barack Obama stood silently in the House doorway, seemingly alone with his thoughts. More than an hour later, after giving a speech that called for unity but lingered on division, he was still alone.

Getty Images

The Republicans met the speech with a jaw-clenched hostility that most expected. The left side of the aisle was like a cemetery for much of the address, made up of silent rows of granite faces. They applauded when the President praised America’s armed forces and when he promised to move people from welfare to work, but they marched out of the chamber almost before he had a chance to affirm that “the state of our Union will always be strong”. It was an exit that gave little hope for Mr Obama‘s calmer, more consensual Washington.

But what was surprising was the muted presence of the President’s own party. They showed up. They followed the speech carefully. And they clapped at the right times. But the Democrats seemed neither fired up nor ready to go. Even announcements of robustly liberal polices – new financial regulations, investment in clean energy, and backing for education to lift American workers in the 21st century – failed to rouse them. They applauded like they were in a fog, unsure of what was in front of them.

Only two moments in the entire night seemed to bring the room of politicians, soldiers and judges together and to attention. The first was the entrance of Gabby Giffords, the Arizona representative who walked unaided into the chamber just a year after a gunman put a bullet in her brain. It was her last State of the Union as a member of Congress and her colleagues responded with warmth and affection to her astounding march back towards health.

The other was President Obama’s hushed recounting of how America’s shadowy warriors slipped into Pakistan to end the life of Osama bin Laden. Imploring Congress to put aside its differences, he said: “The mission only succeeded because every member of that unit trusted each other – because you can’t charge up those stairs, into darkness and danger, unless you know that there’s someone behind you, watching your back.”

In a crowd of thousands, only two people seemed riveted by the President’s words. Michelle Obama followed her husband’s speech with urging intensity, head bobbing as she followed his lines and breaking into a proud smile as he announced measures to aid veterans and to help children from impoverished families. She wore a dress of royal blue and sat at the heart of a small court of presidential loyalists.

One floor down, Hillary Clinton led her cabinet colleagues to their feet as Mr Obama described how “a wave of change has washed across the Middle East and North Africa, from Tunis to Cairo; from Sana’a to Tripoli”. America’s top diplomat showed unwavering loyalty to the man who derailed her path to the presidency and smiled with relish as he told Republicans he would “fight obstruction with action”.

But as Mr Obama’s reached the end of his 6,986 words it felt like few had resonated and even fewer would be remembered. The man who once spoke so clearly on behalf of a new type of politics failed to make himself heard. If he is to survive a gruelling re-election campaign he will need to re-find his voice.
