Welcome to the land of Gaga —

It’s official, Lady Gaga’s album Born This Way debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with 1,108,000 copies sold in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It’s only the 17th album to sell a million in a week since SoundScan began tracking sales data in 1991, and the highest sales week since 2005.

Born This Way‘s bow reaps the largest sales week of any album since 50 Cent’s The Massacre did 1,141,000 in its first week, in March of 2005. The last time we had a million-plus frame was when Taylor Swift’s Speak Now premiered at No. 1 with 1,047,000 in November of 2010. The SoundScan-era record week is held by NSYNC’s No Strings Attached, when it debuted at No. 1 with 2,416,000 in 2000.

Bernice King Leaving Eddie Long’s Megachurch to Launch New Ministry

Published by EOTM News Editor on May 31st, 2011 - in Breaking News

Bernice King confirmed during a radio program Tuesday that she is leaving Bishop Eddie Long’s New Birth Missionary Baptist Church after more than eight years as a member. King said her decision to leave comes as she pursues a new assignment from God.

Speaking to Praise 102.5, King said she served her last day as an elder and member of Long’s Atlanta megachurch this past Sunday. She also clarified that she didn’t “resign” from any position since she was never employed by New Birth.

“I’m just no longer a member of New Birth,” King told Praise 102.5 FM.

King’s departure from New Birth on Sunday came just days after a settlement had been reached in a sexual misconduct case between Long and four young men. Long was accused in the lawsuits of using his position and lavish gifts to coerce the men into sexual relationships.

Radio host Lewis addressed speculation that her leaving had something to do with Long’s settlement in the case. Although he didn’t directly mention the case, Lewis asked King to respond to people who ask why all these “things” were happening at the same time.

“I’ve always followed what I believed to be the voice of God and I’ve sought to be obedient to that voice,” responded King. “I know that I have a pastoral calling on my life and I have to accept it. I’m in the process of pursuing that.”

She added, “I did what I felt what was appropriate in leadership, which was sit down and talk with him and gave him the timetable of when I would leaving. I didn’t just leave.”

“That was the decision the Holy Spirit placed in my heart, which was Sunday, May 29. I have never wavered from that.”

LeAnn Rimes to hold Benefit Concert for Tornado Victims

Published by EOTM News Editor on May 31st, 2011 - in Celebrity News

Newlyweds Leann Rimes and Eddie Cibrian are putting together an acoustic concert to benefit recent tornado victims.

“We wanted to reach out to the victims.  A lot of these small towns, people don’t have houses with shelters,” LeAnn says in an interview with the Florida-Times Union. “They’re living in what they can afford. It’s terrifying. Where do they go? It’s heartbreaking.” “My grandmother pulled me into a closet, and I literally saw the roof pick up, turn sideways and sit back down catty-corner back on the house,” she remembers. “Every window in the front of the house was blown out, and the pillow I was sleeping on had a huge shard of glass through it. Ever since I’ve been terrified of tornadoes.”

The concert, “An Evening with LeAnn Rimes” takes place this Sunday at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall in Florida, and will be co-hosted by her husband Eddie. It includes a silent auction of memorabilia from Justin Bieber, Kelly Clarkson, Tim McGraw, Kim Kardashian, Reba McEntire and the cast of “Glee.” Tickets are $65 and $100. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit her blog dedicated exclusively to the benefit.

Buzz around the clip, which appears to have been recorded with a handheld camera, has pushed the upcoming film’s title to the top of Google’s list of popular searches. But there’s plenty of reason to speculate that the “leak” could be a viral marketing ploy by the film’s creators.

Science & Technology Hackers Resurrect Tupac With Bogus Story

Published by EOTM News Editor on May 30th, 2011 - in Celebrity News

A hacker group angry at a PBS documentary about WikiLeaks hit back at the broadcaster by posting a fake story on its website claiming rapper Tupac Shakur was “alive and well” in New Zealand.

The story on PBS’ NewsHour site said that the famous rapper, who was shot and killed in Las Vegas in 1996, had actually been found living in a small New Zealand town, along with fellow murdered rapper Biggie Smalls, Forbes reported Monday.

PBS pulled down the story but it was archived by Google News and spread quickly through Facebook and Twitter.

“Again, our site has been hacked — please stay with us as we work on it,” read one of the NewsHour’s several tweets responding to the incident.

Hacking group LulzSec claimed responsibility for the cheeky sting in retaliation for a PBS report critical of WikiLeaks and suspected leaker Bradley Manning aired May 24.

The hackers also posted a list of user names and passwords for PBS staff.

“We just finished watching WikiSecrets and were less than impressed. We decided to sail our Lulz Boat over to the PBS servers for further… perusing. Anyway, say hello to the insides of the PBS servers, folks,” an internet post from LulzSec said.

Gil Scott-Heron Passes Away – But Not Forgotten

Published by EOTM News Editor on May 29th, 2011 - in Celebrity News

“Not running for my life, because I have to be running for something of more value to be running and not in fear” Gil Scott-Heron

American poet, musician and author Gil Scott-Heron, best known for spoken-word songs such as “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised,” died May 27 at a New York City hospital at the age of 62. The Associated Press reported that he became sick upon returning from a European trip.

He is sometimes called “the Godfather of Rap,” but rejected the title, even though rappers such as Kanye West, Common, and Tupac have sampled his works.

Gil, more accurately suggested a mix of Richard Pryor’s darkly comical oratory, beat poetry and blues-inflected ballad-singing.

Heron made poetry of confrontation and art out of everyday life. As the critic Nelson George once wrote, Scott-Heron was a “keyboardist, poet, singer, rapper, and teller of uncomfortable truths.” Those truths could encompass everything from chastising the President of the United States to musing about how difficult it sometimes is for a man to tell his child, “I love you.”

An uncompromising artist working in a machine that thrives on compromise, Scott-Heron was an imperfect fit for the disco and MTV eras, though his “uncomfortable truths” resonated with those who wanted more out of music than  just escapist good times. His devotion and passion to music will live on forever and he will be missed. May you rest in peace, Gil Scott-Heron.

We will leave our reader with a lil peace of Gil-Scott Heron — please share your comments below.
