Royal wedding: Prince William and Kate Middleton marry – President Obama Not Invited

Published by EOTM Press Room on April 29th, 2011 - in Breaking News, Celebrity News

A stylish marriage for William and Kate

The crowds cheered  as Prince William emerged from Westminster Abbey with his bride on his arm. A stunning bride, Kate Middleton – now Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge – joined The Firm amid the pomp and pageantry Britain prides itself on performing so eloquently.

Before a global television audience of many millions, Kate played her part to perfection. From the dress – by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen, kept a secret until the last moment and sending the British fashion industry into paroxyms of ecstacy – to the 1936 Cartier diamond tiara loaned by the Queen, she looked every inch the fairytale princess.

Which, of course, she was not. The Queen’s conferring of the ancient title of Duke of Cambridge on her grandson just hours before the ceremony deprived his wife of the title Princess Catherine. But she is a duchess, which is still very much royalty.

And this time around, thirty years after Prince Charles and Princess Diana wed, the bride did not forget her groom’s name and the groom did not stumble over the wedding vows. Everything appeared to go without a hitch.

After the couple said their vows, in which she did not promise to obey William, the archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, declared: “I pronounce that they be man and wife together, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.”

They spent a private moment together with their families as they signed the marriage register.

The congregation included heads of state, diplomats, charity workers and the couple’s friends. David Beckham, prominently displaying his OBE on the right lapel of his Ralph Lauren morning suit, was accompanied by his pregnant wife Victoria. Elton John, the singer, and Guy Ritchie, the film director, were among the celebrity faction.

We just recently posted via our blog a complete list of dignitaries, royalty and friends that were invited. Ironically President Obama and First Lady Michielle was not on the list, which to many constitutes a royal snub.

So what’s the truth? Was this a snub? As far as I can tell, all signs point to no. According to FactCheck.org, a nonpartisan website operated by the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania, the Obamas weren’t alone among world leaders in not receiving invitations. In fact, a spokesman for Prince Charles told the website in February that “no other heads of state other than those from foreign royal families have been invited to the wedding.”

EOTM on Sports: 2011 NFL Draft

Published by EOTM Press Room on April 28th, 2011 - in Breaking News, Sports

By: Mark Sandberg

The 2011 NFL Draft is so close I can taste it. Sure, the Raiders don’t have a pick today, but maybe they should try and change that. I’m not sure they’ll have a player to line up at tackle otherwise.

Steve Corkoran was answering questions on Bayarea.com the other day, and someone asked him if he thought Mario Henderson or Langston Walker would be re-signed. Here is what he had to say:

“I have heard from other players that Mario turned down a one-year offer and that Walker is contemplating retirement. Therefore, the Raiders might be in the market for a right offensive tackle because Khalif Barnes isn’t coming back either.”

I am not surprised either way on the bit of news about Mario. There are very few free agent left tackles on the market with starting experience, and he is likely to get a decent deal. For the Raiders part, trying to get Mario back on a one-year deal isn’t a bad idea. They could do a lot worse than that for back-up, and on a one-year deal they wouldn’t be investing much.

As for ol’ man Walker, I had no idea. He’s only 31, and he hasn’t had a history of injuries. Maybe he is just telling people this to try and get more money on his next contract. But if he retires it is going to make the need to draft a tackle even more pressing.

I wasn’t thrilled about the idea of having Walker start the 2011 season as right tackle, but at least he was a fairly viable option that brought some plus play to the run game. Ideally, I was hoping the Raiders would bring someone in to take his place at tackle and have Walker to start at guard and/or for depth, but Walker dangled out their like a tattered security blanket.

We can get more into free agency after the draft, but take a quick look at the list on WalterFootball.com of free agent tackles, and it paints a pretty grim picture. Given the increasing reality that the NFL is going to play under the same rules it did in 2010, there are only about four or five tackles that aren’t tendered that would be an upgrade over Walker at tackle. And it is not like Walker set a high upgrade bar.

While I like quite a few linemen the Raiders will likely have a chance to draft in the second-round I don’t like any of their chances as an opening day starter at RT. Expecting to land a RT in free agency is going to be an expensive roll of the dice. I really don’t expect the Raiders to trade up to the first-round to take a tackle, but it may be the only way to land a capable starter.

What is really going on? Looks like yo girl Serena Williams, Tennis extraordinaire wants to try he hand at rapping.

Serena Williams Rapping

She is known for her awesome serve, but rapping!? Well according to TMZ, the tennis superstar is pursuing a career as a rapper!

Serena reportedly checked into a studio last week in order to work on her flow and lay down tracks with an assist from respected hip-hop producer DJ Clue.

Williams has also allegedly teamed up with a label owned and operated by Bryant McKinnie of the Minnesota Vikings. That’s a logical match up, since both are athletes venturing into the music world and can grow and learn together, right? Judging from the people that Williams is working with, she is serious about this new phase of her career.

Rumor has it that Williams’ rap skills are pretty good. I wonder what type of rap she plan on bringing, I pray its a little bit of conscious. Lord knows we don’t need another Lil Kim. What are your thoughts? Share below.

Brad Pitts to fight Zombies in World War Z

Yes sirrrr! Brad Pitt’s ready to fight! The 47-year-old actor is starring in the upcoming film World War Z, MTV News reports.

The film will be the silver screen adaptation of Max Brooks’ book about a zombie apocalypse.

Pitt’s production company, Plan B Entertainment, first secured the rights to World War Z in 2007. (His company won a bidding war for the fights to the film against Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions)

Brooks received a call in July confirming the A-lister’s attachment to the project. He gushed to MTV: “I can’t believe how cool Paramount has been to me and these projects, and how cool Plan B has been.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Mirelle Enos, star of AMC’s new crime drama The Killing, will play Pitt’s on-screen wife. The film is scheduled to begin shooting in June. Congrats to Plan B, you did that!

Tuki Brando in Campaign for TechnoMarine Watches —

Marlon Brando’s grandson, the son of his daughter Cheyenne Jackson, is showing off an artistic new side of himself in an ad for watch brand TechnoMarine. Tuki Brando, who is no stranger to the modeling world with former experience working it for Versace and others, wears a sleek watch over one eye like a patch in the striking campaign, which was created to resemble a gallery of portraits. A release from the company explains his appeal, “He has inherited his looks from his grandfather Marlon, but decided not to follow in his footsteps. He is creating his own trail and pursues a medical career.” He joins other stars including Taiwanese model Chin Hsi, Harry Potter baddie Arben Bajraktaraj and Slovakian model Ivana Vancov, who all sport the watch the same way.
